Word Count: 325

Summary: When two kingdoms are at war, and their respective princes are friends, what else can they do than this?
Notes: Actually a scene of a bigger story, which has yet to be written. .__. Though I do have it in its planning stages, I kinda doubt it will ever be written.
A VERY belated gift to Kaito, Key and Spell. .__. My own ability to procrastinate sometimes shocks me.

“I don’t like this.”

Shinichi languidly turned his eyes to the pacing prince as he said, “I am not pleased by it either.”

Kaito paused and glared at him, “How can you be so relaxed!? Our fathers are at about to go on a war-”

“With each other,” Shinichi added in a bored manner as his eyes returned to the promising book in his hand.

“Don’t you care,” Kaito yelled, “about your father a-!?” He froze and paled, then he directed fearful eyes to his friend’s direction and anxiously watched for a reaction.

Ohno-ohno-ohno-ohno-ohno...

“Kaito,” he jerked as Shinichi’s voice softly came- the voice was carefully blank. “I care not for my father- whether he lives or he dies. You are conscious of that.”

“I know,” Kaito whispered. “I’m sorry.”

“It does not matter,” Shinichi patted the space beside him, never taking his eyes off of his book. “I am aware that, unlike myself, you care for your father.”

Kaito carefully sat down beside Shinichi on the drying log, and for a while, silence permeated the clearing as Shinichi finished his reading. Minutes ticked by, until a page was turned for one last time, and Shinichi spoke.

“Kaito.”

He turned to look at the calm prince, who closed his book and, standing up, looked at him. “Let us leave.”

Kaito stared as confusion filled him. Leave? So early? They hadn’t even been here for an hour.

Then he saw it.

The deeper meaning. It was hiding as a tiny glint in ocean blue eyes.

“I must get going now. You should leave too.”

“I have to leave now.”

“They will start to look for me soon, I should leave.”

“I shall take my leave now. Take care of yourself, Kaito.”

His own eyes widened as he breathed out, “Run away?”

Shinichi’s eyes drifted off to stare at something behind Kaito and glazed over. “Yes, before they involve us in the war.”

Shinichi...

That’s right, Kudou would obviously force him into the war at some point. This would force father, who values fairness, to do the same and bring me into the war.

Kaito stood up, bringing Shinichi back from daydream-land and taking his attention.

He held out his hand as he said, “Let’s go.”

A small smile appeared on Shinichi’s face as he nodded and took his hand.
