Night had fallen so long ago already, yet the skies were alive with lights and the noise of the helicopters and the streets were crowded with a cheering mass held back only by the line of policemen blockading it. The clamor surrounded a museum- the site of the Kaitou Kid heist about to occur in mere minutes. However, the noise wasn’t only from outside the museum where the people chattered excitedly, but also from inside the museum.

Inside the museum was chaos.

Officers scurried around doing last-minute preparations and positioning themselves to try and apprehend the criminal about to enter their midst. In the middle of it all, one man who answered to ‘keibu’ barked out orders and reprimands. Between every few instructions were proclamations of the Kaitou Kid’s imminent capture at his hands.

One person watched the chaos from his place by the window. His hair was a tea-colored blond that easily stood out among helmets and dark-colored hair. In his hand, an open pocket watch ticked the last minutes until the heist began. Blue eyes flickered down onto the watch as it hit 10:58. Two minutes to go. His gaze returned to the room. Nearly everyone was settled down by now. All waited in anticipation for the clock to hit eleven.

He glanced at his pocket watch as the second hand hit twelve. One minute. Behind him, on the opposite side of the glass, a man in white sat languidly. His mouth pulled into a grin as the string for the charm of his monocle whipped against his face and an indigo eye observed the room. His cape fluttered in the wind, creating a writhing shadow on the floor by the window.

The blond spun around; however, there was only the night sky to greet him through the window. His eyes narrowed and he returned his attention to the target jewel’s display case.

Another glance at the pocket watch. Thirty seconds. The men squirmed anxiously.

Fifteen seconds. The man in charge, the keibu, swept his eyes once more over his men, checking their positions and numbers and ensuring that there were neither additions nor missing men.

Five seconds. Four... Three... Two... One.

Zero.

Darkness descended, and chaos returned.
