Chapter Ten - Back to the Basics
Hikaru pushed himself off the bed, eyes upon the empty one next to him. A pang of guilt struck him with misery as he realized that the original occupants of the room hadn’t returned. He had taken to staying in Kei and Yuri’s room for the remaining hours of the night and had dozed off into a very disturbed slumber until an alarm somewhere in the room had gone off.
He sighed deeply, feeling embarrassed for losing control the night before. He knew blaming each other wasn’t going to help, and he didn’t really care who did what anymore.
Kota
Groaning he grabbed his jacket and left the room. He walked down the hallway with uneasy steps, hesitating a bit as he reached his own room, the one he had left in such a flurry the night before. Taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The curtains were drawn but subtle beams of sunlight had managed to sneak into the room anyway from the gaps, immersion the room in a soft, rather comfortable hue. Daiki and Kei were asleep on the first bed, back to back. Ryutaro was curled up in a corner by the window, arms tightly around himself, breathing steady. Keito was sitting up on the sofa chair but very much asleep with his chin resting upon his chest. Yuya and Yuto were on the floor, sharing a blanket while Yuri was sprawled upon the second bed, which he had seemingly taken for himself.
Hikaru smiled softly, feeling guiltier than ever. He carefully tip toed over to Ryutaro and draped his own jacket over the boy before leaving his sleeping group mates.
“What am I supposed to do now?” he mused, looking around the silent hallway. It was already past eleven but he guessed people were still recovering from yesterday’s event. He wondered where Kota could be.
“I should, apologize…for last night,” he mumbled, staring at his shoes. He stared at the last room of the hallway and realized it was Sakura’s.
“Maybe…he’s there?”
Hastening his steps, Hikaru nodded sharply upon her door and upon hearing a command to enter, he pushed the door open and stopped dead at the doorway.
“Sa…Sakura-chan?”
“Hmm?”
Hikaru blinked, taking in the state of the girl’s room. The floor was littered with paper, the bed with books and files and the girl herself was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, a computer in her lap, eyes upon the screen and fingers twirling a pen.
“So…what are you up to?” he asked casually, closing the door behind him before leaning against it. She looked up at him and he was surprised to see the very obvious dark circles under her rather swollen eyes and the cut on her lower lip.
“You look awful,” he said before he could stop himself. To his astonishment, she sighed.
“I’ve looked worse, you should see me before exams, could make babies cry,”
He chuckled.
“You could use a cup of coffee,” he offered. She looked up at him, thoughtfully, before nodding.
~*~
“Seriously, you weren’t really studying were you?” Hikaru asked taking a swig of his canned coffee. Sakura took a minute to chew and swallow her cream bun as the pair walked down the mildly crowded street. The village was livelier in the morning and Hikaru was very much glad for that.
“I was, sort of,”
“Sort of?”
“I have been collecting data on your group for a while now, last night I decided to finally put it down into writing,”
“Data?”
“Yes, I’ve made individual files on your abilities and skills, placed them together with your health records from the past two years and have come up with a hypothesis concerning the extent and limits of your individual abilities,”
“You pulled an all-nighter for that?” he asked, unable to hide his shock. Sakura nodded at him.
“I left the hotel early morning to find a stationary store to get supplies, now I need books…would you mind coming to the town library with me?”
“Library?”
“Yes, I can borrow more books with two library cards,”
“Are you going to study more?”
Sakura gave him a little smile.
“No, those books aren’t for me, they’re for you.”

“You have got to be kidding me,” Hikaru groaned staring at the high school physics textbook Sakura had placed before him. The group minus (their leader and tenth member) was seated around a large table in the hotel café, which was currently over run with health workers scanning the area for the source of the mysterious ‘illness’ that had affected the staff and guests.
“I got this idea from Daiki-san, and then Yuya-san did it as well,”
“What did you two do?” he glared at the pair. Yuya looked away nervously while Daiki made a face.
“In order to fully understand the evolution your bodies have gone through, you need to thoroughly understand the science of your being; from the changes the drug has done at the cellular level to how your brainwaves work now compared to before,”
“So why high school science books?” Yuri asked, unimpressed. He had them all memorized after all.
“Before people build machines that can propel them into space, they need to know what keeps them on the ground right?”
“Um…gravity?” Ryutaro mumbled, a little confused. Sakura nodded.
“The basics,” she stressed.
“Even if you know them well,” she looked at Yuri, “Give it another go, maybe you might understand things a little differently now.”
“I get it!” Yuto exclaimed, eyes shining with excitement.
“We have to read the whole book?” Hikaru complained but jumped as Kei slammed the one he had been reading for the past 15 minutes down after finishing it.
“I’ll mark the necessary chapters, and then we can get some college level ones too…,”
“Sakura,”
All eyes turned in the direction of the call to find Kota standing a table away.
“What about the files you made on us?” he asked.
“That is the final part of your study,” she replied with a knowing smile.

Ryosuke feels the wind knocked out of him as his back slams against the wall with a massive thud. He crumples to the floor, the pain vanishing as soon as it came, but he scrunches up his face nonetheless.
“Hey, what gives!” he snarls, eyes tearing up. The older boy before him smirks.
“You’re weaker than I expected boy,”
“I don’t spar, it’s not something I usually do!” he defends, getting to his feet, acting like it was taking every ounce of his energy.
“Honestly?”
Ryosuke lurched back into the wall as Silver appeared before him in the blink of an eye. He cowered awkwardly under the older boy’s scrutiny, obviously annoyed at the other’s lack of personal boundaries.
“How is it, that you’re so vulnerable despite having the bona fide, full strength elixir?”
By elixir, Ryosuke assumed he meant Miyano’s drug.
lsquo;Sheesh what an overdramatic way to term it.’
Ryosuke pushed him, making Silver stumble slightly.
“I am very strong okay, just not used to…using it for anything like fighting,”
Silver struck his palm with his fist, face full of understanding.
“Of course, you’ve got a point…man then you’ll be pretty hopeless in a fight,”
Ryosuke made a face as Silver clapped him on the back.
“Good thing you have me huh, don’t worry….senpai will train you well,”
“Whatever,” he responded, shrugging the other’s hand off. Ryosuke watched as Silver sashayed down the long white corridor, talking about lunch and desert and wanting pudding.
Everything was going so well, it was actually thrilling.
He removed the wide smirk on his face as Silver turned and beckoned him impatiently.
“Aren’t you hungry?” the other asked as Ryosuke walked towards him and then scowled as the younger boy walked past him, completely missing the predatory gleam in the younger’s eyes.
“Of course I am…senpai.”

A/N: Nope, Silver isn’t clueless, it’s just he’s surprised that Ryosuke’s got super strength which he does not know how to use. Professor has suspicions of Ryosuke’s healing abilities, but he isn’t sure to which extent…thus the ‘kidnapping’...well it’s not really kidnaping but more of blackmail…I think.
