Chapter Nine - Falling Apart

“Hello?”

“Hey, Sakura…its Aoi,”

“Why are you still up? It’s 3 in the morning,”

“Yeah, hey but so are you! Um…actually…there is something…um…Hayato wants to talk to you,”

Sakura frowned at the anxiety in her friend’s tone. She heard some shuffling before her brother’s voice gave her a timid greeting.

A few minutes later, her phone fell upon the carpet with a thud and she slid down after it.

“No…No…No way,” she gasped in disbelief. Her whole being started to tremble, her brother’s confession ringing in her ears. She stared at the floor, vision blurred by tears.

“NO!”

She bit her lip so hard it started to bleed. Tasting the metallic liquid, she let out a strangled cry before burying her face upon the mattress and screaming into it. She screamed and wailed and cried hysterically till she was weary before climbing up onto the bed and curling upon it.

“Why, why does this have to happen? How can we do so much wrong?”

She pulled her knees closer to her chest, holding herself close.

“Father, we’ve done too much harm…how am I going to make it up to them now?”

“So, your plan worked really well ne Kota?”

Said boy glared at his shoes, the sarcasm in his friend’s voice stinging like a cut.

“Hikaru-kun, please calm down,”

The older boy shrugged Keito off rather violently, startling everyone in the room.

“I told you before Kota, corner him, get it out of him, it’s okay to use a bit of force but no, you said we should give him time,”

Keito leaned against the wall, next to Kei who looked strangely lifeless, staring at his two best friends with a blank expression on his face. Yuri was leaning against Daiki’s side on the bed while Yuto was sitting on the edge of it, head in his hands.

“I didn’t want to frighten him,” Kota replied quietly. Hikaru chuckled darkly and Ryutaro gulped. He had never seen the older boy this way before.

“You act like he’s a little child; that giving him a little bit of pressure would have scared him off! Our jobs were pretty easy going weren’t they Kota? We trusted you and you trusted him, giving him his time and space and look what your little…child did! You gave him space…and he took flight!”

“Hi…Hikaru-kun…I’m sure he had his reasons…,” Keito began timidly, furtively glancing at the paling figure beside him. Hikaru shot him a look that made him jump. It seemed as if the boy wanted nothing more but to set the whole hotel on fire.

“Reasons? We risked our lives to save him! We did our very best to protect him! Leaving on his own will…with the people that challenged us, its mockery…they’re probably laughing at us right now…its betrayal!”

Keito pulled Kei away from the dressing table where the flowers in a simple vase caught fire. He grabbed hold of a water bottle and emptied it upon the scorched bouquet.

Every boy in the room was on full alert now.

“Hikaru…calm down,” Kei said this time, voice full of warning. Kota remained on the sofa, immobile and too numbed to even lift his gaze from the floor.

“He…he said it’s the only way…if he went with them, they won’t harm us, or his family,”

All eyes were upon Yuya, who had spoken up from the bathroom doorway in a very shaky voice.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Kota inquired sharply, mind suddenly working on overdrive.

“I…uh…well…he…,”

“Are you telling me…you knew?” Hikaru gasped; eyes wide in disbelief. He let out a sort of strangled cry as Yuya hung his head.

“Why, why didn’t you tell us? How long have you known this?” Kei asked, trying to keep his voice calm. Yuya sniffed, wiped his face and then spoke, voice cracking.

“A while ago, he said he would have to leave...but I thought, we would be able to keep him from doing so…as long as he is with us, nobody could take him away…so, I kept quiet, I didn’t take it seriously enough,”

There was a heavy silence that followed before Kota stood up from the sofa and left the room, slamming the door on his way out.

“I need some air,” Hikaru said, fists clenched before storming out as well.

Yuya slid upon the floor as Yuto started sobbing hysterically. Kei sighed before settling down next to Yuto as Yuri clambered over to Yuya, pulling him into his arms. Keito looked at Daiki who was staring up at the ceiling, too weary to even blink and then at Ryutaro who was still staring at Yuya, stunned.

“You’ve left us to fall apart Ryosuke, piece by piece.”
