In preparation of graduating with my Master's degree sometime in the spring/summer, I have put my resume up on both
Monster and
Careerbuilder. After you post your resume, you always get a bunch of recommendations from the jobsites. Usually these are useless. My favorite is because I put down that I was looking for a "GIS Analyst" position I would definitely be interested in a financial analyst position! Uh... no.
The best, though, have been the emails from "potential employers." They all claimed to have read my resume, and yet, they all are contacting me about jobs so far out of my field that they are ridiculous. Let me show you.
First, we have someone who thinks I'd be a great sales manager in their life insurance company. Oh yeah. That's me right there. Not.
Second, we have someone who based on my background, thinks I'd be a great candidate for their position. No mention of what this position might be. A quick look at their website shows... a banking insurance company! WTF? At this point I thought I might have put my resume in the wrong section, but no. They are just blasting out these email to whoever posts their resume.
Third, this email tells me about an EXCITING OPPORTUNITY with... duh duh duh... Mutual of Omaha! No, they don't want to offer me a job. Nope. They want to offer me financing so I can be my own boss. Woo hoo! Sign me up for that. I'm sure with the economy in the toilet like it is, it will be a great opportunity.
Fourth, is my absolute favorite. The entire email is "I read your resume on Careerbuilder." Seriously? You did? Good for you! You get a gold star!
Fifth, is a scam email. How can I tell? They are looking for a legal representative in the US who will receive funds or packages for overseas clients which I will then process in the US and forward on. Oh yeah. Real legit there.
Sigh. Silly me. When I posted my resume, I expected to get inquiries that actually had something to do with my experience.
And now, a random bit of conversation:
"I know your kind."
"What? Gay?"
"No. Evil."
