Oh man, I just saw the dumbest statement on a bottle of make-up.
This make-up just declared itself "Titanium dioxide make-up." Why is this so hilarious? Because just about every type of make-up - from foundation to eye shadow - no matter what the brand has titanium dioxide. Check the label, I'm betting its there. Saying your make-up has titanium dioxide is like saying your soup has liquid.
Titanium dioxide is one of the rare, naturally occurring white substances. Fun fact: another naturally occurring substance is white lead, which for obvious reasons you don't want to go spreading on your face (unless your an ancient Roman). It's used as a base of a lot of things: make-up, paint, plastics, paper (to make it whiter), food, toothpaste. It's used in sunscreen because it also has reflective qualities as well.
How do I know this? I learned a lot about uses of minerals in one of my geology classes. My professor had us bring in something that used minerals. I got bonus points because I brought in make-up, which had the largest number of minerals in it.
You see titanium dioxide is just another name for the mineral
rutile. Which, incidentally, is one of the largest natural sources of titanium.
This is why you do not want a geologist taking a survey about your make-up. You'll do dumb crap like this thinking your fooling people, and the geologist will call you on it.
