Storytelling 203

on so many levels i'm Dean (music, snark, sarcasm, i'm the oldest. anyway). but i think when it comes to spoilers, i'm Jared. in one of my many conversations with Bodge, she mentioned the reason Jared is a "walking spoiler" is that to him it's not spoilery. it makes sense; he knows where it's going. Jared's mom is an English/Literature teacher ( Read more... )

I read/watch a lot of mysteries and I'm pretty good about guessing the killer/reason a good while before the end. In fact my dad and I were watching Foyle's War today and a good half hour before the end I started going "oh, oh! Oh, that's cold. Oh!" My poor dad was like, shut up already. (he came in after I started or he would have guessed before I did. the big baby.)

My friend Julie made it and all the other 'costume' icons I'm using right now; her icons are just amazing. You can find them at crymeariver_.livejournal.com

To me, it's one thing to figure out a plot point and ask for (or read/watch on) for confirmation. That's part of the fun. Just having it handed to you - even without context - can ruin somethings.

I'm a former spoiler-ho, but I learned that the spoils I got ruined some of the fun of just being in the moment of the show. When you know it's coming, you can watch for it and appreciate how it was handled, but you've already dealt with the shock. This is, of course, my personal preference.

My speculation scenario for Dean's return is very similar to yours. Better drama, me thinks, if he has to try and get his bearings away from Sam. I'd never considered Sam's vision alerting him to Dean's return for some reason, but I find it very cool.

well, i think i figured out that this is why these kinds of spoilers don't bother me. cause they make sense.

as for Sam's vision? i think the voices wrote that, cause that wasn't part of my original idea. heh.

I get what you mean. In the given example, Dean is such a pivotal character to the series that I don't think they could get rid of him for good. He adds depth to a show that would otherwise be two-dimensional. Besides, there haven't been any promos for new shows starring Jensen, so it wasn't hard to guess that he'd be back ( ... )

well, it was only logical - you don't have two main characters and kill one off.

Those aren't technically spoilers if you have half a brain
hehehe yeah... i agree.

I think the problem is that the ones who get uppity about these kinds of spoilers are probably the ones who don't do a lot of critical thinking. They don't recognize the patterns that the rest of us see, so they don't want us to tell them about it.
well..... yes and no. there are those who are like you describe, and there really are those who do think things over, and they don't want to know about it at all.

But I can tell you that I can guess certain things about the show just because of the way writing normally works.
heheh yep!

I agree about Dean though, I hope that they stretch it out a bit longer.
i hope they do, but i don't think they will. *sigh*

can we have some suspense?

Amen. That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the spoilers here: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/supernatural/supernatural-creator-teases-de-21283.aspx

I know they're trying to keep the Dean fans happy, but I for one am disappointed. I like your idea better.

exactly. but see, i'm kinda a weirdo in this fandom....

and as much as i want to see Dean back right at 9p.m., i KNOW he'll be back, so my hope is that they play it up. but i don't think they will. Eric is still writing to his loud minority.
