Storytelling 203

on so many levels i'm Dean (music, snark, sarcasm, i'm the oldest. anyway). but i think when it comes to spoilers, i'm Jared. in one of my many conversations with Bodge, she mentioned the reason Jared is a "walking spoiler" is that to him it's not spoilery. it makes sense; he knows where it's going. Jared's mom is an English/Literature teacher ( Read more... )

I get what you mean. In the given example, Dean is such a pivotal character to the series that I don't think they could get rid of him for good. He adds depth to a show that would otherwise be two-dimensional. Besides, there haven't been any promos for new shows starring Jensen, so it wasn't hard to guess that he'd be back.

Most people cry "spoiler" over things that are more common sense than anything. Of course the guys are going to come up against angry ghosts. Of course there are going to be real monsters, like there have been before. A real Halloween show is something that I'm sure has been the root of a lot of speculation in the fandom for some time. Those aren't technically spoilers if you have half a brain and know that the writing that goes into a lot of things is fairly formulaic.

I think the problem is that the ones who get uppity about these kinds of spoilers are probably the ones who don't do a lot of critical thinking. They don't recognize the patterns that the rest of us see, so they don't want us to tell them about it. Can I tell you what's going to happen in each episode? No. Can I tell you how Dean's coming back? No. But I can tell you that I can guess certain things about the show just because of the way writing normally works.

well, it was only logical - you don't have two main characters and kill one off.

hehehe yeah... i agree.

well..... yes and no. there are those who are like you describe, and there really are those who do think things over, and they don't want to know about it at all.

heheh yep!
