Chapter 10 “This is where we’re having our honeymoon? Are you serious?”
Jared watches in dismay as the car drives away, leaving him and his husband in the middle of nowhere, standing in front of an old cabin just as the sun is falling.
Perfect.
Jared stares in shock as Jensen simply picks up their bags and walks into said old cabin, leaving the door open for Jared to follow.
Pompous asshole.
“You can either, come inside and get comfy,” Jensen pokes his head back outside to where Jared is still standing, “or you can freeze to death out there.”
Jared does not stamp his feet like a petulant child.
Nope, did not happen.
Instead, he follows Jensen inside and prepares for the worst.
In actual fact, the cabin isn’t that bad. There’s a large fire place, a rug stretched out in front of it, a sofa on one side with some cushion and, when Jared turns to the right, he can see a kitchenette where Jensen is currently switching the kettle on.
“Coffee?”
Jared shakes his head and instead goes around exploring.
He finds a bathroom with an old style bath and an adjoining wet room, the bath clearly not big enough to hold Jared’s large frame.
A bedroom. Single. As in, there’s only one. And he’s struck with a tiny sense of panic at the prospect of sharing a bed with Jensen.
“You like the bed?”
Jared jumps and whirls around to see Jensen leaning casually against the door, the clothes from the wedding now gone and instead Jensen is dressed in a pair of jeans and a hooded top open to mid- chest exposing a glimpse of tanned chest.
Jared does not ogle Jensen’s chest.
He’s not a teenager after all.
“I was just wondering where the guest room was.”
“Guest room? Jared, there’s only one bed. Mine.”
“And what? I’m supposed to jump into bed with you?” Jared huffs a laugh. “Right.”
“Interpret it how you will. You can share a bed with me. Or you could sleep on the old sofa.”
And with that he turns and walks away, leaving Jared standing in the middle of the room.

“Can I ask why you chose this place?”
Jensen looks up from his coffee to see Jared walking into the living room. His husband is dressed in a pair of sweatpants and an old wifebeater, his hair still damp from his shower.“You mean why in the middle of nowhere, away from civilisation?”
Jared nods.
“With the craziness of my life and with how busy work is, I can come here and breathe. There are no meetings, no-one asking for my time and no-one to bother me really.”
“So you come here often?” Jared perches on a chair and pours himself a cup of coffee.
“When I can; I mean, it’s not like I can leave my office whenever I like. Even being my own boss, you should know what that’s like; I have to be everywhere all the damned time.”
“I’m sorry.” Jensen only just hears the mumble and for a second, the change of topic throws him. “For the car thing.” Oh. Now he gets it. “I was being a dick. After Lehne and just everything today… getting married, leaving everyone behind, the honeymoon and… I just felt like I had no control over anything. And it scared the shit out of me.”
Jensen nods once. “Not like I was much better. And I’m sorry too.” Jensen is relieved to see a hint of a smile on Jared’s face and a second later a full-fledged grin.
“What?”
“How painful was that?”
“What?”
“Apologising?”
Jensen can’t help but laugh. “Excruciating,”
And then the mood falls somber again. “I don’t know if I can share a bed with you. I mean… I don’t know… I’m gonna sleep on the sofa.”
“Sure?”
Jensen watches as Jared hesitates for a second, his brow furrowed and then finally nodding.
“Okay.” Jensen rises and places his mug in the sink, placing his hand on Jared’s shoulder for a second he leaves. “Night, Jared.”

Jared twisted and turned for what seemed the hundredth time, the sofa was obviously not meant to hold someone of his height. He could either have his feet dangling off the side or risk getting a crick in his neck.
Neither seemed comfortable to be honest.
And then there were the noises.
The wind was howling, something was creaking and these odd noises kept making him jump.
Not to mention the dark.
There had been a fire burning earlier but when Jensen left the room, he quickly extinguished it and the room fell dark. Jared was left sitting on the sofa with nothing but moonlight.
He didn’t know where the fear of darkness came from; he never really liked the dark. He slept with the lamp on at home and always kept a torch in his car just in case of emergency. Since he lost his momma at a young age, keeping the light on was a sense of comfort.
Jared glanced again at the fire. He could see the embers glowing slightly, their dark shapes glowing with an orange hue. He picks up a piece of wood from the pile and carefully pokes the fire, watching as they re-light. After pulling the blanket from the sofa, he settled himself on the floor and within minutes, he falls asleep.

When Jensen walks into the room and sees the empty sofa the first thought in his mind is that Jared had run away. And since Jared had no idea where they actually were and wasn’t familiar with their surroundings, Jensen was scared shitless.
And then he saw a lump on the floor.
Brown shaggy hair.
Oh God.
Jared was dead.
There was no other way to explain why he was lying on the floor.
Jensen reached down, held his hand above Jared’s mouth, and was relieved to feel the soft inhale and exhale of his breathing.
Of course that was when Jared chose to wake up.
Yell and smack Jensen across the face.
Again.
“Jared!” Jensen held his wrists and leaned back to keep himself from getting punched in the face. “Jared, it’s me. Jared, it’s Jensen.”
Jared’s head whipped around and Jensen could see that they were bloodshot, his hazel eyes surrounded with webs of red.
“Jensen?” He nodded. “What the hell?”
“I thought you were dead!”
“What?”
“You weren’t here so I thought you’d run off. And then there was a lump on the floor and I thought you died.”
Jensen saw Jared’s eyes widen, a small smile playing on his lips. “Nope. Still alive. I would appreciate if you let me go though.”
Jensen glanced down and saw that he was still holding Jared’s wrists hostage; he quickly let them go and smiled sheepishly. “Sorry.” Jared nodded. “So…you sleep okay?”
Jared tilted his head left and right. “Better than I thought.”
Jensen picked himself off the floor and gestured to the other side of the cabin. “There’s hot water in the shower if you want. I’ll do something for breakfast.”
Jensen saw Jared open his mouth and then close it quickly. He was glad to see that the redness around his eyes had gone down a little. He wondered again why Jared would choose to sleep on the floor.
“Shower’d be great.”
Jared was almost out the door when Jensen called to him again. “We’re going for a walk after breakfast.”
“A what?” Jared poked his head back through the door. “In this place? We’ll never get back!”
“Jared, I know this place like the back of my hand. Plus, some walking would do you good.”
“You calling me fat Ackles?”
“No, I’m calling you lazy Padalecki. Now get!”
Jensen could hear Jared muttering something about him as he went but couldn’t be bothered to argue with him.
***
“I’m gonna die.”
Jared heard Jensen snort.
*Shut up. My legs hurt, I’ve been bitten more times than I’d like and I’m pretty sure I stink.”
“Jared, it’s the great outdoors. Plus, it’s high time you did something other than sit behind a desk.”
Jensen had insisted on taking Jared hiking. Although it felt more like a torture device than anything else, Jensen had persuaded him and Jared grudgingly slipped into some old trainers and comfortable clothes.
They’d been walking for about half an hour so far and Jared was beginning to get tired and irritable. It didn’t help one bit that Jensen didn’t look half as bad as Jared did. He was walking and climbing up hills like he did this in his spare time, which telling by the way his muscles corded in his arms, he did. Jared could clearly see the shift of muscles under his tee and the way he held himself was a clear indication of how fit he was.
Jared on the other hand looked like someone had thrown a bucket of water over him. His cheeks were flushed, clothes damp with sweat and his muscles everywhere, places he didn’t know existed, were aching.
Although, he had to admit this place was… different.
Jared could smell the clean air around him, admitting to himself only that this was quite cool. He could hear them thrum of nature around him and in the distance hear the splash of water in the lake.
And then he walked straight into the back of Jensen.
“The hell?”
Jensen turned around to face him, a look of serenity crossed his features and Jared could see the sunlight shine off his eyelashes, making his eyes glow like jade.
“Amazing right?”
Jared peered around him and could see a fall of water in the distance and hear the way that water hit the ground. When he looked down, he was shocked to see how high they were and how close to the edge they were standing. The ground underneath was undisturbed and Jared could just make out some wildlife walking through, completely unaware of their presence.
He had to admit, this place was pretty amazing.
“Wow.”
Jensen’s presence was like an iron brand, warming up his left side as they stood at the edge. “See…not all that bad.”
Jared huffed. “Oh yeah. I really enjoyed the way I sliced my legs open.”
He could hear Jensen chuckle behind him. “City boy.”
“Ass.”
“You think you can make it back? Or should I carry you?” Jensen was full out smirking now.
“Fuck off. I’m not that-“
Jared had obviously misplaced his feet and miscalculated his own reaction time, the next thing he knew he was tumbling down the incline and was vaguely aware of Jensen screaming his name.
Funny.
He’d never heard Jensen quite that worried before.
