About a month ago my brothers and I talked about going to a baseball game. We had just been to one not to long ago so the prospect seemed good that we could pick one out with enough time to get time off from work etc. We hadnt talked about it for a while and last week my brother called me and says that my brothers wife's brother had some free ticket vouchers for the A's and that we can use them to get in to the game for Sunday since he couldnt go. We thought that they were going to be three free tickets and that we would get them and scurry off to the game. Well, we got the vouchers and found out that one was free and that the other was a buy one get one free deal. This morning as were packing to leave for the game we start talking about things we could do like tailgate or eat there at the park or whatever. The two things that we didnt want to forget and I really didnt want to forget was the sunscreenm, a hat and the vouchers. We leave and I have all of these items in the car and were driving down the road checking them off. Now, the night before we were having a conversation about tailgating and the whatnot and my brother asks if we should BBQ and I say that sounds great but were going to need a truck. He has a brand new truck but says that his wife would have no way home if he was to take the truck to the game. End of conversation, were not BBQing. Flash to this morning about twenty minutes into our drive to the stadium and my borther asks,"Do you think we could fit that weber in your trunk?" I sigh, look into the rear veiw mirror and say "No, I dont think so." So were cruising along and we stop off at my brothers house for a little pit stop, drinks and the like and keep on goin'. We get to McKafee Stadium and when we pull into the parking lot we see lots of open space and people moving around alot up front. We hop out of the car and we say were going into the stadium to get the Dan Haren bobblehead dolls that the entire purpose of the game was planned around. Once we had said dolls we were going to return to the car and put them away. First we have to go to the ticket counter and get the tickets in exchange for the vouchers. We get to the ticket counter and we tell the lady that we would like the best seats available. We hand her the vouchers and she asks us for thirty dollars for one Field level seat which we knew we had to buy and "Viaola!" We have three Field level tickets to the game and were heading into the stadium. they hand us the dolls as we walk in but, we quickly learn that we cant go back out. So I have left my hat and suncscreen in the car but, I have my precious doll in hand. Its cloudy and cool and I convince myself that the low clouds will keep the sun away and that we'll be fine without the sunscreen. Well, the seats that we got were great seats, they were in section 118 row 28 which is right behind home plate, great, great seats. The upper deck was just above us and the sun was tracking so that we would be in the shade in no time at all. By the beginning of the second inning it was shady. Although I got a sunburn on my head in two spots because I didnt put enough sunscreen on my forehead. Suncreen that I might add a fellow fan lent me since I had left mine, something I dont think happens at Giant's games. Its was a very good day and reminded me why I like baseball and why I like spending time with my brothers. The baseball experience is really something and since its in the bay area you get a smattering of every type of person and background. Fans for the A's and probably all teams are loyal to the bone and its always evidenced by the people who leave the game when the A's are down. True fans might wait for the final dagger to be thrown before throwing in the towl and leaving. Some fans might get tired and want to leave due to the long drive that awaits them. And, so what if yout team is down two runs in the end of the eighth and all the other team has to do is go out and execute three outs and go home. The odds are very good that that exact thing will happen. But, if you decide to leave and your driving home listening to the game that you were just at and your team was down two runs when you left. If that team makes a miraculous comeback with a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth and you left thinking that the game was over... lie and say you were there.
