The household is still kind of reeling from the sudden loss of my Tiger cat.  The younger ones don't know what to do without their 'Uncle Tiger' who raised both of them and I'm still missing him terribly.  Maybe it's just as well this sudden extreme cold snap came along to keep me busy taking care of the horses.  It was 9F (-13C) last night with 25 ( Read more... )

In what I sincerely hope is the last gasp of winter, we got a couple of inches of snow yesterday. It was all gone by noon, but even I have to admit it was very pretty when I first went down to the barn.

Just when you think you see the light at the end of the tunnel, there's a train behind it. I went down to the barn this afternoon thinking that, while I had some clean up to do, the major problems were out of the way. Some of you have heard that the mid Atlantic region of the US was hit by a monster storm. We were right in the middle of it, winding up with about 36" of snow. I got the horses in just as it started on Friday afternoon. Yikes! It's been a really cold winter here this year, although thankfully, we haven't gotten much snow (so far - knock wood) but I don't think the temperature has hit the mythical average high of about 45F (7C) for this time of year in the last two weeks. It hit 70F today (that's 21C, for those of you in the rest of the world). True, this is Virginia, but that's pretty atypical for this time of year, especially considering that it was freezing-ass cold and we had several inches of SNOW last week.
