The last week or two have been so messy.
I finished up my summer semester on a disappointing note. Mainly, I found the class - digital libraries - to be a letdown. Everyone I knew who took it last year raved about it but I found she spent too much time discussing XML schemas and scanning technology. Both those topics are more fully covered in classes dedicated to them and I wish we spent more time on what actually constitutes a digital library ( as opposed to a website with resources), what being a digital librarian means, discussing actual digital libraries and the roles that librarians play in their creation and maintenance and more practical content in that area. Our final project was an option to create a digital library prototype or write a fake grant proposal for our plans to add a digital component to a library. I chose to create a library but didn't find it satisfying. Probably would've gotten more out of the paper. Oh well.
We had Sterling over for the past week and he introduced us to the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic cartoon and it actually is kind of good, if you can get past the pony bit, which I find difficult.
I haven't been enjoying work again. I think it's just the stress, it's such a stressful environment during holiday and "back to school". People are impatient and don't understand, management pushes us to meet certain quotas for the day and i end up spending too much energy worrying about my performance instead of just talking to people about technology and shit. I did get certified in small device repair so that's another fuckwad of stress. Angry people with broken phones. Yay. Eventually, it will mean I won't have to sell anymore and can just teach but I've got to jump through the silly hoops first.
Because of this, and because it's awesome, I'm applying for a new job. The state library is pretty regularly hiring student assistants, right now there's a position open for someone on digital projects. Right up my ally. No nights or weekends, build your own hours and in a field I'm interested in. Only problem is that it's only available as long as I'm a student. If I get an interview i intend to discuss what options I'll have once I graduate, at least at the Apple store I can move into a full time position after graduating until I can find a real library job.
Probably because of the crappy class and work being crappy I've been pretty listless and bored. I have vague, weak desires to draw and sew but not enough to overcome the work of planning and setup that comes with them. I have a really good book t I started but it isn't interesting enough to keep me going. I just bought Batman: Arkham Asylum but get bored after about 20 minutes of play.
Really, everything is unappealing and boring. Not a good state of mind.
