a quick check-in

Goodness but it's been a week. I've been working by day and then heading out in the evening to take part in the Fringe Festival. Note to self: take the week off next year. *facepalm*

Some of the fun shows:

Midsummer Night Fever -- It's sort of Shakespeare meets disco. Seriously. A Midsummer Night's Dream set backstage at a '70s dance show. It was fabulously bizarre! The music rocked (anyone remember Disco Duck? I Will Survive? Macho Man?) The costumes, cultural references of the time and the over-the-top acting made for a very fun 90 minutes.

Killing Kevin Spacey -- One day a guy realizes he's Kevin Spacey. Oh, not the actor, but the life - or rather, the life of some of his 'pussy' characters. So the guy goes for a change, but being Al Pacino doesn't help.

Hamlet - Back in Black -- A rather clever two-hander. A screenwriter is coerced into creating a sequel to Hamlet. The show mixes in his struggle and the whole casting process (the impersonations were quite good - esp. Sean Connery and Keanu Reeves). It also explores the idea that Chris Marlow actually wrote Shakespeare's plays. Basically, the whole thing looks at how there just isn't any such thing as a truly original idea. Very good. And best of all, it was a free ticket. We were chilling in the beer tent and this guy comes up and says if we can answer a question about Hamlet, he'll give us a couple of tickets to the Wednesday night show. I answered the question and we ended up going to the show. LOL

Wooster Juice -- Oh, how I love Jeeves and Wooster! This was a one hander with John Huston portraying a variety of characters - he is a little scary at how easily he slips from one to the other - but I loved his Jeeves most of all.

I made tonight an early night. I'm tired. It's hot and muggy (though not nearly as bad other places, thank you God), and it plays havoc with my joints, therefore with my sleep.

In other news, city transit is in a strike position. Starting tomorrow, no one will be doing voluntary overtime, which means huge cuts to some of the more active routes (including mine), especially during the rush hours. Voluntary overtime is how most of these routes are staffed, so if no one is doing them...

I will be up quite early to check the website and see where the cancellations are. It will be interesting.

So, in a nutshell, I'm still alive and kicking.

I send hugs to you all, and a double helping to those who are experiencing some really weird and crappy things.
