And we sittin' here, talkin' 'bout practice.

So, yesterday, I went to East Rock for the first time and was kinda blown away. This was assisted by the fact that a friend visiting from out of town had taken me there on the back of his motorcycle.

The view at the summit was wonderful, but the true impact of the event was that it got me thinking about perspective. First, the obvious conclusion: seeing the city of New Haven from so high a vantage point reminded me that there exists so much outside the confines of the university campus. There's an entire city happening around us and we sometimes manage to forget that.

The other thing is that this friend of mine has always brooked no small amount of admiration from me due in large part to my having known him for several years as someone with constant new experiences waiting to be shared. For example, my first real interaction with him was when we had gone to Egypt with a group of friends during the Spring Break of my freshman year. The things we did there were absolutely extraordinary. All new experiences.

This is also the same friend who, after graduation, went to Turkey, bought a beat-to-shit motorcycle there and drove it across the eastern half of the country. And he doesn't speak a word of Turkish.

He works in consulting now in Boston but seeing him again was such a pleasure. I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have put me on the back of his bike and take me up a mountain.

yale, travel, life, wtf
