1833 - Alfred Nobel
Inventor of dynamite, he later in life used his fortune to create the Nobel Prizes. I think he should have created a Nobel Prize for facial hair!

1854 - Oscar Wilde
Definitely the most famous gay man of his time. Wilde was known for his fierce wit. He was convicted of "gross indecency" in England for being a homosexual and spent 2 year doing hard labour. After his release he left England and never returned.
