Title: That Thing You Do
Fandom: Super Junior
Pairing: Kyuhyun/Sungmin
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1257 words
Summary: Kyuhyun gets the wrong kind of first impression, and is hard pressed to let it go.
Notes: This is a product of my sleep deprivation, so if you catch spelling/tense/anything mistakes, just point them out, and they will be corrected whenever I feel like it. I was over this! I totally was, and then people in my f-list started linking to it, and then I started linking it to a friend, and then I started writing. Based on the first episode of There She Is!!! There could possibly be more, but I make no promises, because I suck at keeping them.
First days at school were always less interesting than what they were made out to be. Parents would cry, older friends would tell horror stories, and everyone would generally just try to induce panic. Kyuhyun knew from experience that first days in any school were always the same.
His first day in university was perfectly boring. It was his second day that changed everything.
---
Calculus was his least favorite class, but it happened to be the one that he got the best grades in. Unfortunately, the building was set in a remote area of the campus and so far from his dorm that he would probably end up skipping more often than not. However, his professor had announced that he wanted to see who was competent, and who was not, so their second class would be spent writing a test. Kyuhyun had slept past his alarm, and had taken too long getting ready, so he was already rushing, when he collided with another student.
“I’m sorry! I’m just in a rush, and I wasn’t watching, and the ice, and... and, why are you staring? Are you hurt?” Kyuhyun really hoped that wasn’t the case, and wondered if running away right then might be a little insensitive.
“No, I’m fine. You are just...”
“Okay. I have to go.” And he did, because it was not in his best interests to be late to his second class. He’d given the boy a fair chance to voice any concerns he had, and if he happened to be in shock or something, so be it.
---
Their second meeting went just as well. The best thing Kyuhyun could say was that nobody was injured this time around. He was lingering outside his dorm building despite the cold, when something touched his arm. It was the boy that he’d knocked over, holding out some sort of liquid in a cup.
“Hi, I’m Sungmin, you knocked me over this morning.” Kyuhyun looked at the drink in his hands, warm steam drifting out of the lid, and thought about all the warnings he’d heard about taking things from strangers. It was just so cold though, and this stranger looked incapable of hurting anything sentient.
“Oh, well. I feel like I owe you something.” Taking the risk, Kyuhyun accepted the cup, and took a careful sip. There was nothing but innocent, warm hot chocolate inside. “I’m Kyuhyun. And I was late for class.”
“You told me. So...” Sungmin peered at him over the top of his cup. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re really good looking?”
“N... wait, what?” It occurred to Kyuhyun just then, that he did not know this person. Sungmin could have slipped something in the drink, or he was just using it as a cover for darker means. “I have to go inside now.” Oh my god, he knows where I live! Panic settled in, and Kyuhyun turned around and walked straight into his roommate.
“Oh, hi. What are you doing out here? Oh! Hot chocolate!” Jungsu, without giving Kyuhyun a chance to warn him about the possible drugs slipped into the cup, grabbed it, and drank what Kyuhyun would assume to be most of its deadly contents, before noticing the other man. “Who are you?”
“I’m Sungmin. Kyuhyun’s friend. And you are...?” How Sungmin even dared to call them friends after knowing his name for less than five minutes was beyond comprehension. Kyuhyun wasn’t actually going to deal with it, and left the two of them outside. This was no longer his problem, and he would sleep peacefully knowing that.
---
Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Apparently, Jungsu and Sungmin got along absolutely fabulously, and since Kyuhyun had not had the foresight to warn his roommate that Sungmin was a stalker in the making, Jungsu told him his school schedule.
And because they were instant friends, Jungsu invited Sungmin along to everything. In any case, Kyuhyun was spending way more time with him than he deemed necessary. It was getting to the point where he was making up lame excuses not to go to his favorite places just to avoid Sungmin. Even that failed to continue working, because Jungsu even invited him into their dorm. The place where Kyuhyun slept, and kept all of his precious belongings.
On one such occasion, Sungmin was invading the top of his dresser, and help up his PSP. Kyuhyun, forgetting the rule about not touching him if he could avoid it, pried it out of his hands, and shook him by the shoulders.
“Do not touch!” Jungsu didn’t even look over from the movie he was watching, because he was aware of this side of Kyuhyun. Sungmin didn’t look phased either, but that might have had something to do with how close he was getting. “Don’t.” Kyuhyun pushed him back, and retreated to his bed, clutching his PSP to his chest.
Life couldn’t get more difficult.
---
Sungmin was tricky. Once Kyuhyun established his rules, the two of them got along pretty well; the rules were: no touching, no invasive questions, and no going through personal belongings. Except, sometimes Sungmin broke one of the rules, or, the more common experience, all three of them. It happened too often for Kyuhyun’s liking.
But Sungmin used underhanded tricks, and everything he knew about Kyuhyun in his favor. This equated to a lot more hanging out than Kyuhyun had originally been prepared for.
“Hey! I was wondering if you wanted to go see that new movie, based on that video game that I know you like.” How was he supposed to say no? It was a movie based on his favorite video game, and Sungmin was using it to spend more time with him. It wasn’t fair. No, he was not going to stand for this. If he said yes, Sungmin would keep doing the same things over and over. “I’m buying.”
“Sure, what time should I meet you there?” Damn his traitorous mouth and brain, but he really wanted to see that movie. Maybe he could subtly leave the seat between them free, and put the popcorn there. It was a perfectly plausible excuse, and with that solid plan in mind, Kyuhyun shooed Sungmin out so that he could study and get ready.
When he got to the theatre, Sungmin was already waiting, tickets and popcorn in hand. Kyuhyun’s flawless plan was shot down by the fact that there were virtually no seats left, but Sungmin had planned ahead, and saved two at the very top.
The movie pleased so many of Kyuhyun’s gaming fantasies, it was easy to ignore the fact that he was sitting almost shoulder to shoulder with someone he’d once believed to be stalking him. The best part was that Sungmin could appreciate the violence that generally went hand in hand with video game movies. Jungsu usually made faces, or turned away, or complained endlessly.
“Cool!” Sungmin said enthusiastically as they exited the theatre. He stretched, probably a little more than necessary, but it did the trick of drawing Kyuhyun’s eyes to his briefly exposed midriff. “I am so seeing that again with Heechul.”
Kyuhyun’s eyes slammed shut, and he stopped walking for a moment. No, no, no, no! That did not just happen. But it did, and there was no getting around it. Sungmin had gotten him somehow, with all those mind tricks he played, his the wanting to know things about him, and the borderline stalking. He couldn’t pinpoint when distrust had become friendship, or when he had suddenly started wanting more, but he had, and he was completely and totally, irrevocably fucked.
