I guess that means you're a big fan of good, old hand-drawn animation. :)

Well, if Gamer lives up to pseudo-philosophy implied by the trailer it might be okay. After all the recent talk about how games and films are merging to form a new form of entertainment a film about that topic could be interesting. But if it just Gerard Butler shooting people then I'm a bit more hesitant. ;) That said I'd love seeing Michael C. Hall on the big screen.

I'm also looking forward to the Princess and the Frog, but then partially because of all the controversy the film has gathered.
With Ponyo though I'm looking forward to the film based on nothing more than pure joy. :)

I'd say it's best not to expect too much from the guys behind Crank except some mindless fun. If you're able to enjoy it. :)
I've read about that merger too but so far I'm unable to see any advantage. Well, except that it might make it easier and cheaper for the industry to sell tickets and merchandise once they are able to combine the production process. ;)

I believe there was a case of what people call "race-fail", but I have to admit that I didn't follow the story about what was going on with the Disney movie.

Previous Coixet films I've seen have mostly just bummed me out, but Map looks promising.

And hooray, Ponyo. Always more interesting than Disney, definitely.

Thanks! (Oh, and loving your new default icon, by the way.)

I haven't found time yet to watch Elegy. But I've recently seen The Secret Life of Words. While it was pretty hard towards the end, I very much liked the tone and mood on the oil rig. And I don't remember too much about My Life Without Me. I also find the trailer for this one very intriguing.

I'm tempted to say that I'm feeling too old for Ponyo. But then again, I've only recently watched My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. :)

Thank you! I first wanted to try to make an icon myself. But when I saw that one I knew I would never be able to make one nearly as good.

Re: Gamer. Whilst I appreciate that they're cashing-in (to some extent) on the WoW/Second Life vibe, albeit with a darker spin, this one reeks of the mid-'90s slew of similar fodder. (I bet Mister Crowe wishes he could strike Virtuality from his record.)

I think Crowe can use the "young and needed the money" defence for that one. ;) Since there's also Denzel Washington I'm sometimes tempted to watch it again when it turns up on TV (I don't remember a lot from the first viewing years ago) but so far I've always decided against it.

Gamer: I ended up seeing this movie today because ever since seeing GB in The Ugly Truth, I have a tiny little crush on him. *shrug* It's too bad he picks movies that are totally not my style, but oh, well. The movie was...not great. Both GB and Michael C. Hall (added bonus, by the way, that he was in it) were very good and MCH did a sarcastic little song and dance number near the end that I loved, but the movie, itself, was definitely forgettable. =/

I think I would've been very much surprised if you had liked the film overall. :) That's what you get when you start "falling for" the bad guys like Gerard Butler. ;)
While I like in general the basic set-up of the story I don't think I'll particularly like its execution. Not entirely comparable but it reminds me a bit of the old classic "Rollerball".

When I watch movies because of "special reasons" I tend to watch them at home so that I have a the fast forward button at my disposal. ;)
