Monday: Still not king, but fortunately still sane.
Look, I know you are so totally sick of hearing this, but... The more time that passes, the more I come to believe that my depression from October-November or so to February really derived my thyroid levels being so entirely off the charts. Since that fateful morning a few weeks ago when I woke up feeling normal again, I've stayed feeling normal. I'm sure my fascination with this will fade in time, but for the time being, I'm just so happy to wake up every day feeling like myself, and having the energy to do anything. I'm grateful for the simple gift of normalcy.
In other related news, that period of time also encompasses one single 90-day prescription of my thyroid medication filled by my mail order pharmacy through my insurance. I suspect strongly that I got a bad batch of medicine. Unfortunately, I took all of it, and have even recycled the container, so there's no way to know. Although this pharmacy ends up saving me something like $40/year on thyroid, I think I'll stick with the relative inconvenience and marginally higher price of going monthly to Walmart instead. I'm a little spooked by the notion that I might have gotten inactive meds from the mail order place... AND FURTHERMORE, the only reason I did not get another 90-day refill is that the same outsourced mail order outfit confused my current CIGNA records with my Humana insurance through the same mail order place which went inactive in 2007. I don't think too highly of this mail order place. My local Walmart pharmacy has really nice customer service -- yes, please!
Got 16 tons of things done this weekend... but individually in 3 oz. amounts
Again, it's just such a simple luxury to have the energy and drive to get things done for a change. I scratched off a number of very small chores off my To Do list this weekend. Nothing too much, but cumulatively I am pleased with the results:
- Did All The Shopping In The WorldTM covering Walmart, Whole Foods, and the liquor store. (You need to go to a proper liquor store to get real wine and beer here in Colorado.) Never again let it be said, "There is nothing to eat in this house!" Also found a chardonnay that I order at a local restaurant on its Wednesday half-price wine night since it's usually $11 a glass -- forget that! It was on sale at the liquor store, so I picked up a couple bottles for the future.
- Hobbit Taco Night on Friday night while we caught up on "Grimm," which we really like
- Tried to take 4-Runner to the fancy carwash on Saturday morning, but there were "a million" cars ahead of me. I'll make an appointment for next Saturday morning.
- Bagged and indexed all the clothes to take to Goodwill for donation.
- Completely forgot said bag in the living room and failed to get it donated.
- Hit Goodwill's 50% off sale on Saturday. For $11.06, I got 2 blouses, 1 T-shirt, 1 pair of shorts, and a really nice suit jacket. Of course the $6 suit jacket will itself cost $11 to have dry cleaned, but still - $17 for a nice office jacket is still a great bargain. I'll pick it up on Wednesday, and I look forward to wearing it preppy style with some jeans to work later this week.
- Ran laundry, cleaned up my desk at home, and fussed with some needed computer maintenance and organization.
- Finally filed our taxes, which was a disappointment. Until the very end, it looked like we were getting a refund of $2,000. Then I discovered a glitch in the way TurboTax calculated Ian's Unemployment benefits which reduced that to us owing the Feds $61. It was indeed a bummer. Fortunately we weren't counting on the refund for anything but general building of savings.
- Swept and Swiffed the hardwood floors downstairs.
- Finally cut out wrapping paper circles 24" and 30" in diameter, respectively, so we can see what size GIANT CLOCK we wish to purchase to hang above our fireplace. (The answer is 30".)
- Did dishes, cleaned the kitchen.
- Finally got around to washing and blocking (with pins) a lacy scarf I knit for a friend as a Christmas present.
- Painted my toenails.
- Dusted the entertainment center (which happens like... twice a year... if that... so this is noteworthy).
- Folded all the laundry in the world.
- Updated my resume based on a recent job description I saw posted which inspired me, and another source regarding contracts administration language.
- Recycled a bunch of paperwork I didn't need.
- Made file folders for the GIANT STACK of papers which has been collecting on my desk since, oh, the latter part of 2010....
- Finished knitting my first sock! Tried it on, took a photo, and then unraveled it since I didn't like how it turned out. Now I've started on attempt #2 with an even fancier pattern now that I feel a little more confident here. (Learning how to knit socks is one of my New Year's Resolutions for the Year of the Enterprise.)
- Rescued Watson from having his head stuck in the handle of a gift bag as he ran around the house at top speed in sheer terror.
- Cheered Watson up by having him "help" me make the bed since that's one of this favorite games in the world.
- Caught up on watching some documentaries and things that have been in the Netflix queue, oh, forever....
- Had last night's dinner plan in action by the time Ian got home from his volunteer work yesterday. We enjoyed a scrumptious grilled chicken salad with bacon and fresh corn, and all kinds of good stuff in it. Yum!
- Even managed to get up early enough this morning to make a salad for my lunch today instead of my usual Lean Cuisine microwave meal.
All this, and we went out with friends Mac and John on Saturday night to attend a benefit banquet for a charity which Mac's family supports. We got to meet some Mac's excellent relatives, and close friends of the family, enjoyed truly delicious food, and the great company of friends.
It was really a good weekend!
60 degrees and open windows here yesterday. It's supposed to hit nearly 65 today and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Birdies have started singing in the mornings around here... but traditionally, March is the month of greatest snowfall in this area. There are still piles of snow in shadowed areas (although I suspect that today's temperatures will address those). I forget that Spring is a real season here with its own personality, and it lasts the full 3 months. I'm used to about 2 weeks of spring blooms, and then we move right on into Summer.
