Cut for ginormous photo of the red paint in my house.
Aced Civil Lit Midterm (or so I hope)...
Last night I think I really hit my Civil Litigation midterm out of the ballpark. I approached it wary of trick questions, and indeed found many; I feel confident that I scanned it keenly for pitfalls and little traps, although I'm sure it's inevitable that at least one "Gotcha!" will rise up to bap me in the forehead when I see the results. Only two questions really gave me any pause. One asked for the phrase meaning, "It has been decided." I recalled the discussion, but didn't have the translation in my notes. I asked the instructor after the exam, and I guessed right -- res judicata, go me! The other was a question about which Motion to file if you've missed the deadline to file an amended Complaint. I know it's CRCP Rule 15, and I know the process, so I explained all that in detail. I'm sure I'll get at least partial credit. The one thing I did not know was the name of the actual Motion! Overall, I feel confident of an A if not 100%. I felt great walking out of that classroom last night!
Celebrated With Impromptu Girls' Night Out...
Ian had a date with his group of former video game coworkers, and Kertz, for all-you-can-eat sushi last night. Neither sushi nor endless video game talk is my thing. Although I'd certainly have been warmly welcomed to join them, Ian and I both believe it's important for the two of us to hold friendships and social activities apart from one another now and then, too. Overall, that translated to no motivation whatsoever to join that gang. I didn't feel like going home, either. I gave Kristen "and Jose" a call, only to learn that Jose had taken a late flight home and had not yet arrived. (He works in Seattle, and commutes every-other-week. They're closing on their houses today, however, so he came home mid-week this time). Kristen and I went to a warm and comforting beloved local place, Village Tavern at Flatirons Mall. The lights there are dim, the walls are painted in earthtones, and there's lots of tall wooden dividers between booths, and heavy wooden beams overhead, and a giant roaring fireplace in the middle. Great atmosphere, very good food, and Wednesday nights are half-price wine night, so it's a favorite destination for our occasional Girls' Nights Out. Had a lovely time with Kristen! We sipped on what we call the "$11.00 wine," which we only order when it's half-price at that rate per glass, and talked about all the things women talk about on Girls' Night Out -- women's health, paint colors, recipes, Vampire Diaries -- the usual. Lovely evening with a good friend.
Speaking of Paint Colors...
Incidentally, have I mentioned to you that I am dissatisfied with the shade of red we painted our bedroom, and an accent wall in our living room? I hope this photo shows up and you can see it:
The lovely and talented Miss Ursa demonstrates the wall she just single-handedly painted for us because she's AWESOME.
This is not the best photo to demonstrate the problem, however. The paint was still wet, and the photo was taken during the brightest summer light. The actual color appears much more "raspberry," closer to the burgundy end of the spectrum. It's not earthy or "orange" enough for my taste. In any case, the ladies' restroom at Village Tavern is painted exactly the shade of red I want! I have a mind to get some paint chips and, I kid you not, hold them up to the womens' room walls (Take inspiration where you find it!). Once open window weather arrives in May, I'd really like to touch up that color to get it juuuuust right, as Goldilocks would say.
That's about all you can do with shrimp.
