My feet are wet.

Well, this is disturbing. My washing machine seems to be leaking. Maybe just a hose connection is lose -- or maybe not. We purchased a service plan with it last March. I'd been planned to hold out until March or our next move, whichever comes first, to call them to come out just for annual service, cleaning and whatnot. I could call early, but I hate to be thrown off my groove! When Ian gets home tonight, I'll see if we can check the hoses, make sure they're on tight. If that doesn't seem to do the trick, then I'll call the service. Bummer!

Finished reading my third book about undead in a row, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. What fun! I'd love to run a Regency/zombies LARP, and my find is full of ideas about it! That book is plain cute. I really enjoy how all the characters are really "zombied up" for the story. Mr. Darcy's bawdiness and frequent bad puns about balls really tickle me. I laughed out loud several times while reading it. I recommend it to all Austen fans with a sense of humor, and maybe even some of their husbands!

I continue to trudge through the complete Sherlock Holmes, started last summer. (Well, I say "trudge," but truthfully it's more like a romp as it has been very enjoyable at every step.) I'm around p. 920 out of 1300 or so. I've just started His Last Bow. I'm reading this particular short story for the third time. I keep interrupting myself, and picking up the book several weeks later, having totally forgotten the beginning of the story. I'm determined to finish at least this short story before moving onto Treasure Island, which is next on the list. Can you believe that I never read it? Seems like I should.

Of other media, I decided that we have this great movie collection which so often goes neglected in favor of Netflix or TV shows. I thought I might go through it in alphabetical order. I'm not making very good progress, I'm afraid, as it took three weeks for me to get through "300" in bits and pieces. "Aliens" seems to be missing, and I'm afraid I loaned it out and it never returned -- I'm terrible with doing that. I keep meaning to leave myself a note in the blank slot for the movie, but I never do. That's one of my favorite movies of all time, too! So onto "The American President," which I know I watched last year. I could watch that again and again and again. I love that movie! Incidentally, it's been amusing to hear Michael Douglas doing the voiceover introduction for NBC Nightly News in the past few weeks.

We're testing out use of one of those recirculating drinking fountains for our cats. They crowd around the bathroom sink every morning and dive in as soon as I turn on the water. They'll drink out of the toilet (damn them), the Christmas tree stand, or out of dirty dishes in the sink -- but they're not terribly fond of their water bowls no matter how clean, fresh, filtered, or cold (which they prefer) the water is. Since it's always a longshot whether or not cats will respond to something like one of these fancy drinking fountains, I advertised for one on Freecycle. Sure enough, someone had one practically brand new which her self-described "snooty" cats didn't enjoy. I got not only the fountain for free, but another interested party who has offered to take it off my hands should my snooty cats not take to it! So far the cats agree it's a wonderful plaything. They have drunk from it now and again, but I wonder if that will continue once they realize they're not getting away with anything elicitillicit*, and that's what they're supposed to do.

Finished this week's dinner menu:

Monday - Grilled Omaha Steaks and roasted rosemary potatoes
Tuesday - Baked Stuffed Peppers
Wednesday - Homemade Macaroni and Cheese - Finally!
Thursday - Peel 'n' Eat Shrimp with mashed potatoes
Friday - Spaghetti and Meatballs

Ian's birthday is next Sunday, January 24. He'll be 28! Now that I seem to have mastered chocolate chip cookies, I'm moving onto more exciting baking challenges like cupcakes in honor of the occasion. I'm not even using a box of cake mix, either!
