Deliberately Living With Less

Jun 23, 2008 10:36

Inspired by samiraalthores (often), I want to share with you the latest addition to the Wall of Reminders behind my computer screen:

Simple living is not about living in poverty or self-inflicted deprivation. Rather, it is about living an examined life - one in which you have determined what is important, or “enough” for you, discarding the rest.

This largely describes how I feel about many intangible forms of noise and clutter as well. Perhaps it is for those things that I most need this elegant reminder.

Along similar lines, samiraalthores's mention of Freecycle.org FINALLY got me to go over there and take a look for myself. moosea1 and my local friend Svea have been singing the praises of this wonderful idea for ages, but apparently the third person to mention it was the charm. I've signed up for their mailing list and now just wait for approval.

The bags of clothing donations did manage to get to Goodwill this weekend, by the way. Out of the closets, out of the house, out of the car! I feel like I lost some weight already!

Ah, if only that were more than a joke... but at least I did make it to Water Aerobics on Saturday morning. It was taught by the most "aerobic" of the instructors, and it was pretty much All Abs All The Time. I came home achy and whiny... but really feeling great! I was unable to go yesterday since the class time was right in the midst of my volunteer time for the company trip to the zoo. I felt awesome both physically and in pride for going Saturday, however, and I have high hopes about getting back into the habit of regular attendance now. In theory I'm back on the Weight Watchers plan, but I'm having some serious trouble getting Adobe Flash Player 9 to install, either at work or home. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what -- so the WW software won't work for me at the moment. Really I just want to concentrate on getting active again, however -- that's the best thing for me on many fronts. The numbers will work themselves out.
