A/N2: Ok guys, don't expect to see another story from me for a couple days at least, I've got to give myself a break or I'll burn out. (Or make everyone hate me, one or the other lol)

When they first read the scene, they had known it was going to be something big, but it wasn’t until they ran through it a couple times that Cory realized just how hard this scene was going to be. It was going to require a lot out of all of them, even more energy than not laughing hysterically at Cory in that red shower curtain gaga dress, but after running through it in rehearsal a couple times Cory came to an important decision.

He hates this scene.

Oh, he knew it was important and that it’s suppose to hurt, but he thinks it shouldn’t hurt quite this much. He took a deep breath and they started the scene, and things go swimmingly until he had to start screaming about how faggy things are. They had to film it three times before Cory can actually do it convincingly, and when Mike came in, angry, Cory thought that maybe some of this wasn’t acting. Mike seemed like he genuinely was horrifically offended, and Chris was crying, but it‘s different than the times he‘s had to cry in the past. Cory knew he was supposed to look past Mike’s shoulder and look at Chris, but he could only do it once before he thought he might cry too. Chris was just, sort of huddled in on himself, eyes glazed over and Cory wasn’t sure that was acting at all.

They were made to film the scene in its entirety five times, and each time, it seemed to take Mike longer to collect himself and Chris wiped at his eyes tiredly, before they reset. Cory hated it. This scene was upsetting for them all, the very last thing he wanted to be doing was shouting the word fag, or any variation of it at Chris, who he adored. It wasn’t just because he thought it was a nasty word, because he does, it’s that Chris had heard it directed at him far too many times in the past. This was bringing up god knows what in him, and it was killing Cory to have to shout it at him.

They finally got the shot they were looking for, and Cory stood up on the stairs above the set with Mike, watching as Chris sunk down onto the couch, and once cut is finally shouted, the two shared a glance before moving down the stairs to where Chris was still perched. He ran a hand across his eyes clearing his throat before he glanced over at the other two.

“Good job kid.” Mike said with a praising smile and firm hand to the shoulder. Chris smiled up at him, and if it seemed a little cracked, well Mike doesn’t mention it. He exchanged a look with Cory that spoke volumes, before releasing his hold on Chris’s shoulder and he headed off to change out of his “Burt” clothes. Chris turned to look at Cory, who was watching him with a slightly traumatized look on his face.

Chris started to say something, ask if Cory’s ok, but it was broken off into a grunt when Cory all but threw himself on top of him, wrapping his arms around him tightly, and pinning Chris beneath him in an awkward, but heartfelt hug. Somewhere in the back of Cory’s mind he was sure this looked strange, that he was dwarfing Chris and pretty much laying on top of him, but he felt solid under him, and that was good enough for now.

“You’re…kinda cutting off my air.” Chris told him after a minute, and Cory sat up, because he’s pretty sure Ryan wouldn’t appreciate it if he accidentally smothered him.

“Sorry, come on.” He said standing and pulling Chris up by his hand. Chris followed trustingly, and somehow, Cory doesn’t think he deserved that. Oh he knew that it was Finn, who was fictional, who was screaming all that hate, but it was his voice. He knew that it hurt Chris, he knew there was no way to have escaped that scene unscathed, and he’s glad that they have at least an hour before either one of them are needed back on set.

He ushered Chris into his trailer and Cory was insanely thankful that the others are giving them a wide berth right now. He knew they wanted to fuss, in fact Lea kind of looked like she wanted to rip Chris away from him, but the others let them be for now. He got Chris seated onto the sofa before sitting down next to him shoulder to shoulder. They sat in silence for a while, each trying to sort out their own thoughts, until Chris finally spoke.

“That was harder than I anticipated it being.”

“Are you, ya know ok?”

“I’m not sure yet.” Chris admitted. “Are you?”

“No.” Cory went for honest, because really he wasn’t. “I’m not, that scene was brutal.”

“Mike really knocked it out of the ballpark though.” Chris was deflecting, Cory knew this particular defense mechanism of his, has seen Chris do it before, when something he didn’t want to talk about came up.

“Yeah he did.” Cory agreed and they fell silent again. Chris still looked like he might cry and Cory kinda wanted to hug him again. Instead he stretched one arm out across the sofa and sighed. “I’m sorry.” Chris jolted out of his thoughts and looked at Cory bewildered.

“What for?” The worst part was Cory wasn’t even sure how to explain why he was sorry.

“I…I shouldn‘t…” He let out a frustrated sigh.

“It was a scene Cory.”

“I know, but I hated having to say that. Especially to you…you’ve heard that word far too many times before.” The look on Chris’ face became unreadable and he gave a mild shrug.

“It was a scene; I know you wouldn’t say that.” He offered a weak smile. “If for no other reason than you’d be scared Amber or Lea, might kill you.”

“They would, it’s not just them though, any of us would gladly murder someone for that particular offense.”

“Cory, seriously, it’s ok. It was a rough scene, but I’m well aware it wasn’t you.” Chris twisted his fingers for a moment, another tick that Cory recognized, a sign of his discomfort. “It was just very reminiscent of high school, that’s all.”

“That was different crying.” Cory said, and he realized that sounded really dumb.

“Different crying.” Chris echoed, and there was something in his tone that made Cory think perhaps he’d said the wrong thing.

“You were really upset, you still are. I di-contributed to that.” Cory cut himself off, because they were both already uncomfortable, the last thing either needed was for Cory to make it worse.

“You’re upset too.” Chris pointed out.

“Because I said horrible things to you! It doesn’t matter if it was Finn saying it to Kurt; it was my voice, and your face!”

“So, if I understand you correctly,” Chris began and Cory shifted because he kinda didn’t like the tone change. “You’re upset because, Finn used your voice, to make Kurt cry, with my face.” When he said it like that, it made Cory sound like an idiot.

“Uh-” But Chris cut him off before he could continue.

“So here’s the thing,” He started, but there wasn’t any anger in his voice, just a wearied frustration that made Cory shift hearing. “You guys have got to stop doing this. I understand, I get it, I’m like your little brother and you’ve all got it into your heads, the whole he cries you die thing, but you guys have got to calm down a little, because you’re making it really hard for me.”

“What?” Cory flinched because he sounded as clueless as Finn.

“These scenes are hard for everyone involved, but it’s kind of hard for me to let it go when you guys hover over me and ask me if I’m ok every few minutes.” It was pointed, and sounded more Kurt than Chris, and Cory thought it might be because Chris was honestly tired of having to deal with his however well meaning co-stars hindering his recovery period because they felt guilty.

“When has this happened before?” Cory ended up asking, because he can’t think of anyone else who would have had scenes like this.

“Mark was particularly bad about it for a while. We’ve already had this talk.”

“Oh. Uh I‘m sor-”

“Stop, Cory it’s ok. It was a hard scene and you didn’t realize how bad it was going to get. Hell, I didn’t realize how heavy it was going to be. I think the only thing that kept that scene together at all, was that I didn’t have to speak, and Mike is spectacular.”

“I’m pretty sure I was supposed to be comforting you.” Cory said at last and Chris grins slightly.

“That’s what Mark said too. Listen, I appreciate it, I do, because it is nice to have people to actually care if my feelings get trampled on, but I have thicker skin than you give me credit for.”

“You’re right, sorry.”

A silence settled over them, but it wasn’t heavy or oppressive like it had been when they first sat down. Cory takes a few moments to really study Chris before he grins. He let the arm that was around the back of the seat encircle Chris before he grabbed him with his other arm and once again, forced him down into an awkward position as he forced another hug on him.

“Cory.” Chris complained, and he grinned a little down at the other.

“Well, since I’m your unofficial big brother, you know, I get to torment you. This is just the beginning buddy.” They scuffle just a little, but Cory has his height and weight and eventually pins Chris on his back under him and grins. Kevin picked that minute to walk in.

“What’s all this?” He asked, looking a little perturbed and Cory realized how this must have looked.

“Just tormenting Chris.” Cory replied, because that explained everything.

“Oh, well ok then.” And Kevin did an abrupt about face and left the trailer.

“That was awkward. Let me up.”

“No, feel lucky I’m not doing the spit snake on you right now.” The look on Chris’ face at the very idea was so hysterical that Cory couldn’t help but start laughing, feeling better than he had since this whole thing had started. Chris may hate that he was everyone’s unofficial little brother, but Cory could take some solace in the fact that he now had a reason to freak out when Chris was upset. He was his little brother after all.

And he wouldn’t actually do the spit snake. Well, he probably wouldn’t anyway.
