✖ frequently asked questions
Q. What does 'i-jin' mean?:
A. The term 'i-jin' is a rude Japanese term used as a blanket reference to foreigners. However, in the setting of Toshima, it is assumed that the term has been appropriated exclusively for use when describing the characters that you will be playing in this game, as they are unwelcome 'foreigners' from different worlds and time lines.
Q. How does the dog tag currency work for participants of Igura?:
A. Well, since the object of the game is to obtain a Royal Straight Flush, the only tags that will be of value and important NOT to use-up as cash are 10's, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces. The tags left over are all numerical in value [save for the Joker tags, but we'll talk about those later], and the way that they are used to pay is really quite simple: if something costs $50, the dog tags will have to add-up to the numerical value of '50.' Tag values are as follows:
2 = $2
3 = $6
4 = $8
5 = $10
6 = $20
7 = $50
8 = $100
9 = $500
Joker tags are rare - even rarer than the face card tags that you need to battle Il-Re. Each Joker tag has a monetary value of $1000 and, as such, they can become a point of high contention between Igura participants.
Q. What do 'AU' and 'OU' mean? What do they stand for?:
A. For the purposes of play in Toshima, OU stands for 'Original Universe' - this refers to the character's canon, or whatever media they're being drawn from. If you're going to be playing the character directly from a specific point in their official canon, they would be from their 'Original Universe' and thus, 'OU.' Conversely, 'AU' stands for 'Alternate Universe,' which would be a somehow altered or changed version of the character's canon. It would be something of a 'what if?' scenario in which the player is exploring the same character with the assumption that events in their life have differed slightly from canon. Examples include genderswitch, 'what if Sasuke hadn't left to join Orochimaru?' or other such scenarios.
Q. What sort of drugs are sold within Toshima?:
A. See
here.
Q. What is 'Rain?':
A. See
here.
Q. What is 'Cupid?':
A. See
here.
Q. What is 'SOLID?':
A. As the CFC and Nikkouden do not officially trade with Toshima and the city is too decimated to host livestock or proper agricultural facilities, fresh food that is not pre-packaged is actually quite scarce in Toshima. Canned food, ramen and 'Solid' end up being the easiest to obtain regular meals for most people living within Toshima, and of the three Solid is widely considered the most popular for its portability and the variety of flavors available. Oftentimes the only source of food for Drug Traffickers and Igura Participants, Solid actually comes in small or moderately-sized snack bar portions, and the wide array of flavors available includes omurice, green curry, yakiniku and other primarily Asian cuisine-inspired options. [supplementary Information: the only really high-quality cuisine in Toshima, i.e. food made with real meat and vegetables, is served inside of brothels like White Magnolia]
Q. Can participants in Igura form teams?:
A. The simple answer is 'yes.' If your character can form an alliance with at least one other participant in Igura, it is possible for them to work together to fight and/or kill people in the hope of obtaining a Royal Flush more quickly. Of course, unless the team is able to work together to obtain multiple Royal Flushes, only one of the team members will be able to use that Royal Flush to battle with Il-Re in the Major Events Stadium. There will be no team or 'tag-out' system when facing Il-Re.
Q. Can I apply for characters from Togainu no Chi?:
A. Absolutely! Characters from Togainu no Chi are not only allowed, but encouraged. However, this RP conception of Toshima and Igura would qualify as a sort of AU of the original Togainu no Chi storyline and setting, wherein Vischio had more time to develop the city and really make it their own [any edits to the original Togainu no Chi conception of Toshima have been made for the sake of streamlining and perfecting RP playability]. If you want to play Akira, Shiki, Gunji, Arbitro- ANYONE from the original Togainu no Chi game, they will not be recognized as 'belonging here' by the leadership of Vischio; even Shiki will not be recognized as Il-Re and will be treated the same as any other incoming i-jin. However, their expertize with what they do and their level of familiarity with the setting may allow them to get an 'in' with Vischio higher-ups and allow them to vault up the social ladder within Toshima far more easily than most i-jin. Please, feel free to explore these possibilities!
Q. Can I apply for characters who are being used as Played-Bys [PBs] for Toshima NPCs or OCs?:
A. Again, the answer is 'Absolutely!' Any of the characters being used as PBs by the NPCs or Original Characters here at Toshima may be applied for at any time. The NPCs and other characters will certainly note the resemblance, and it may be something which your character can use to their benefit in the game... so please feel free to explore this! Especially with Cavalcanti ♥.
Q. I'm playing an under aged character as a Prostitute OR as a worker in-training at White Magnolia. So I seriously can't play-out any scenes of them working, it all needs to be 'behind the scenes' stuff?:
A. Yes, all activity of this nature MUST take place 'behind the scenes' and will not be tolerated in the Toshima game proper. This is not to say that you and an RP partner of yours cannot conduct logs in your character journals under custom friends' filter only viewable to one-another on your own time, but you absolutely cannot play or graphically describe any of your under aged character's 'business' in-game. It seems silly to pretend that in a city such as Toshima, child prostitution would not be allowed to take place, but there are still very strict rules regarding its depiction even in fictitious written situations, and we would rather not get into trouble for 'encouraging' such behavior by way of discussing and RPing it in a fictitious setting.
