Happy October! As soon as the month turned it suddenly got very chilly and I'm totally basking in the cool fall weather.
I've taken on the project of learning to sew. I only decided this yesterday so I haven't gotten that far. In fact I'm still in the stage of getting frustrated over trying to figure out how the damn sewing machine works. The plan was to hem a pair of jeans, and it started out well: measuring, cutting evenly, pressing the new seams to get them ready for sewing. Google and Youtube helped me thread the sewing machine, but getting the bobbin set up was when everything started going south. It ended up being an hour long wrestling match with the machine and all these little parts that fell out of it. In the process I broke all the needles I have, so things have been put on hold until I can buy more. :|
Does anyone who sews know of any resources I should check out? For machine sewing, and for tailoring/sewing/altering clothes in general. I've bought a few pieces from thrift stores lately that are cute and inexpensive but don't fit me exactly right. There's a blazer/jacket that I'd love if it weren't so baggy in certain spots, though I know I'll have to work my way up to altering a jacket. And the idea of eventually sewing my own clothes from patterns, being able to choose the prints and colors and size them just right, is appealing. Once I've got the basics down I want to get
this or something similar, since I have so many basic tshirts that I'd wear a lot more if I could turn them into something more interesting.
