How Much is Too Much?

Oct 04, 2007 20:41

Hello all. An issue has been brought to the attention of the mods, and I would just like to make a brief post about it. I know mod posts are not the most fun, but this is something that will hopefully help the community to run a bit smoother.

This is particularly regarding Jaslene and the abundance of "tranny" comments that are made about her. We've always pretty clearly stated in our rules that you are allowed to go to town with your like/dislike of contestants, while maintaining respect for fellow members of this community. However, with respect to the trans-gender community, the comments are getting to be a little much. There are members of this community that are offended by such comments, so basically, I (and the rest of the mods) would like to ask for it to be toned down a bit.

If you do not like Jaslene, that is fine. I'm not much of a fan myself. You do not have to like any of the contestants. But every time a post is made regarding Jaslene, the 137 "she is such a tranny" comments are pretty unnecessary.

If you have any thoughts, opinions, etc. about this, feel free to reply in this thread. An open discussion would be lovely to help further this community along.

Thanks guys. :)

** EDIT: To be more clear, while this post specifically addresses comments against Jaslene, using negative slurs that pertain to any of the contestants & that could potentially be offensive to other members is something we don't really want in this community. We realize that for the most part this is not an issue, & that generally people in this community seem to be able to take such comments with a grain of salt. But, please be conscious of what you say, & its potentially negative connotations. Us mods are only human, things do slip through the cracks. If you feel someone/something is totally out of line please feel free to comment over at topmodel_mods.
