Notes: S-so. I read four volumes of Reborn! last night (I'm usually lucky to get two volumes in a night, I have a terrible time with scans) and the last time I read that much manga in one sitting was when I inhaled MONSTER in two and a half days. I-- Oh my god yes this series is so hot. *___*

- ARASHI -
exact or 5 times aiba realizes he's shit-deep in love. by aoimidori - When an author can use the Five Things style to good effect, it always delights me. It's a really neat style of storytelling, but it takes some skill to do it well. I really quite liked what the author did with it here, each paragraph/instance stands on its own, but contributes to a larger theme with the fic, each one of them being a fantastic example and showing the characterization very nicely. I love that four of them are based on moments that were caught on camera, adding that sense of a timeline and tying it together with "canon", especially because those are moments I've picked up on as well, moments that show a certain something between Aiba and Jun. Plus, the ending is really wonderful and I get the dopiest smile on my face, too. Just. Love. ♥ (Aiba/Jun.)
- ARASHI -
5 ways they spend christmas/aiba's birthday together. by aoimidori - Oh, speaking of formats I love, another style is where the author writes short scenes, just small little snippets from a different moment over the course of a long period of time, showing the progression of a relationship. I love what the author did here with that style, sometimes tying it together with the "canon" again and then predicting her own version of where they're headed. I love that Aiba and Jun don't just immediately get together, there's a genuine progression between them here, the little moments just so clear in my mind's eye and so adorable and so good. Again, I love the author's final scenes and where she eventually takes them, I love how I smile happily at the two of them interacting, I love how much you can tell the author really likes these two. ♥ (Aiba/Jun.)
- ARASHI -
Onwards Home by Anita - You know how, every so often, there's one of those fics that makes you just incoherent with how perfectly it hit you? This fic does that for me, all that Anita accomplishes with simply writing the Arashi boys as themselves. The way she writes them is brilliant, because they're so themselves and these complicated real people shine through (especially Matsujun) while still having this gorgeous natural flow to the fic. It's hilariously funny, every time I reread the scene where Sho shows up and is worried about Nino (because he's losing at his video game and asdlfkjalskj *crying* he's such an evil little otaku), I start laughing all over again. The fic is full of those little moments without ever feeling crowded for it, there's drunk Aiba and Jun dealing with this in such a very Jun way and then there is hot hot hot porn and a beautiful ending. I just! It hit every button I had! I want to quote half of the fic because it's hilarious and then it turns all hot and the characterization of both Aiba and Jun is brilliant! Every inch of the fic, right down to the subtle touches of showing Jun's OCD without ever making a big deal about it and showing an incredibly insightful perspective on them and then the HOT HOT HOT PORN YESSSSS. Okay, I'm done. This fic ~*~touched~*~ me, but I'll stop slobbering on Anita now. (Aiba/Jun, R-rated content, not quite safe for work.)
- Bleach -
untitled by Chrissie - Oh, man, yes, this is what Aizen/Gin fic should be like all of the time! Certainly all Gin fic as well. It's this upbeat, smiley sort of fic with these moments of subtle creepy, and perfect. Her Gin is that sort of whimsical that doesn't really do much to hide how dangerous he can be, yet it's not like he's precisely a psychopath, either. Her Aizen is fantastic as well, so... Aizen, especially with Gin, even when they're talking about something as simple as the cake Gin baked for him. Just... asdf;lkajsldkj yes! I loved this! (Aizen/Gin.)
- Gokusen -
5 important dates shin & kumiko (sort of) had by aoimidori - This fic also uses the Five Things style to good effect, five scenes ("dates") where Shin and Yankumi's relationship changes a little more each time, which works so well for this couple. The scenes are funny and just retarded enough like the couple themselves, but I really did like how you could see them changing inch by inch, until they were ready for something more, the sense of time passing and each scene contributing to the whole was well done. Plus, the author really does a great job with the characters and I could just see them in these scenes. It's been ages since I've read Shinkumi fic and this makes me sad (yet again) that there's not more for them, because they're so adorable and retarded together, just like this. ♥ (Shin/Yankumi.)
- Xiaolin Showdown -
Black, White, and Grey by CBIzumi - This was an interesting take on Jack, solidly written and... well, I do tend to believe that Jack genuinely enjoys trying to be evil, that it's what he honestly wanted for himself, but it's neat to see a fic where he has doubts about his path in life, that maybe this isn't what he wanted. I like that it wasn't too over the top, that he was more just reflecting on things rather than being overly dramatic about it. The writing was smooth and clean, I could picture the entire thing in my mind's eye, and it captured the atmosphere of those moments of contemplation in the wee hours of the morning that we all have. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Yamada Tarou Monogatari -
untitled by Chrissie - Omg! More good Yamatarou fic! The world needs more of it! And, of course, Chrissie writes such fabulous, fabulous piece and I love the plot of this and the way she wrote it. Tarou needs money and Mimura "helps" him and, of course, most of us have wanted to see the series go down this path, but I always worry that it'll come off as being not quite right, despite how very slashy the two of them were, but in Chrissie's hands... it's hilarious and fantastic. I could just see the whole thing and I love the frame of it. Excellent. ♥ ....and shut up, I know this rec is incoherent, just go read the fic, okay? (Mimura/Tarou.)

Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I really tried to avoid recommending this site, mostly because there wasn't a lot of art in the gallery proper, there were way more comics (even if they were really beautifully drawn) and so I wound up just skimming the site... until I decided, oh, what the hell, I'll at least scan the first few pages of the artist's oekaki board. And that's where I was sunk, because I'm a sucker for pretty Orihime fanart and the artist draws these really super-cute illustrations with Orihime and kitty!Ulquiorra. The main gallery has some super-fantastic Arrancar illustrations (I love the sharp colors and clean lines ♥), but it was Orihime being pretty on the oekaki page that totally made me cave. There's also some very nice Aizen/Gin fanart tucked away into various corners of the site (that always makes me happy <3) and... well. It's not precisely my pairing yet, but the idea of Ulquiorra/Orihime fanart is growing on me, if it means getting pretty Orihime fanart like this. <3 Also, the site is totally worth it for the image of Aizen with chibi!Arrancar sleeping on him. SO. CUTE. (Ulquiorra/Orihime, some Aizen/Gin, some Tousen/Grimjoww.)
-
Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Another site where I'm not sure anyone would be precisely won over by it, but if you like the Ichigo/Orihime pairing, you'll probably find something you like on this site. One of the first things that made me like the site, actually, was the way the artist draws Ichigo's expressions, he has that smirk and/or scowl that I really loved about the character so much. And the art is a little shakey early on, but the artist's recent stuff is getting really quite pretty, especially the way the artist draws Ichigo's hair in his eyes or Orihime's hair flowing all around her head. ....I'm weak to that sort of thing, okay? And this site was nice, it was a solid fix for a pairing I don't get nearly enough of. Especially since they get to kiss and touch and stuff in the gallery, without it being outright hentai. I love that ridiculous amounts, too. ♥ (Ichigo/Orihime.)
-
Bleach/Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Orange Blossom [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This site is not going to be for everyone, I imagine a lot of the appeal for me was in the Ichigo/Orihime-friendly gallery, because I really crave this pairing a lot. However, I honestly liked the adorable fanart for these two, it's a lot cuter and fluffier than I usually go for (even with Bleach in general), but they're one of the pairings that can get away with it. Plus, you know, I'm a sucker for illustrations with them hungging or holding hands, especially when Orihime is kind of really adorable. The site isn't going to win anyone over, but if you enjoy the pairing, you'll probably get something out of the site. As for the Reborn! art, it's very solid and I don't know if I'd have come here just for the illustrations for this series, but I genuinely enjoyed going through the gallery. The artist shows a lot of promise and I liked that she's drawn several of the different characters, that's always a plus in my book. :Db (Ichigo/Orihime, no real pairing themes for the Reborn! gallery.)
-
Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - CMYK [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - There's not a lot of art on this site, but the illustrations that are on the site were so pretty, so beautifully colored and so full of lovely details, just so pretty to look at, that I couldn't help recommending it. It's a site that gave me a little fix and a few pretty images to look at when I went on my fanart hunting spree and I would really love to see more from this artist. (Maybe some het, but nothing I'm going to warn for.)
-
Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Rb-by [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Maybe it's a little soon for me to be looking for fanart for Reborn!, I'm only in the mid-80s at the moment. But I spent last night reading over four volumes of the manga and I desperately craved some fanart, especially if there was some hot Hibari or maybe a little Tsuna/Gokudera-friendly art. This site totally delivers on both counts (I'm not particularly attached to any pairing yet, but if I had to choose one, it'd be Tsuna/Gokudera so far), a smidge shakey in the beginning, which smooths out quickly and then gets gorgeous. The artist's Hibari is super hot, she totally does justice to that sideways slanted look in his eyes, the one that just reeks of lethal grace and deadliness and asdl;fkjaslkj yes. The colors are bright, the kind of almost glowing soft CG-style coloring that I like a lot, and the characters (who aren't Hibari or the other insane ones XD) are adorable, the diary art is kind of smoking hot, and it's just... a really good site for me to have started out with tonight. ♥ (Some Gokudera/Tsuna, a lot of gen, too.)
-
Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is one of those sites that's probably not going to appeal to a person unless you're the type that likes oekaki art a lot. (Or just really likes Gokudera a lot, since the site is focused mostly on him.) That's pretty much what this site is made up of--a bunch of pages with a lot of oekaki scribbles on them, which is something I really like and I tend to be won over by the whole of a site, where enough really cute or interesting little images can win me over even if I wasn't knocked over by any single image. Actually, I'd really have liked to have seen more of this artist doing regular images, there's a lot of potential here, I think she could do some really awesome stuff. Though, in the meantime, her oekaki art is pretty hot already. <3 (Maybe maybe a smidge of yaoi, but it's primarely a gen site.)
-
Odin Sphere - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was certain that I'd gone through just about every available Odin Sphere site by now, that I might not ever find any new ones since I'd scoured fairly well. And, well, this site might not have a ton of art, but what's here is really lovely, very solid images with lovely coloring to create these really cool little pieces. One of my favorites is Pooka!Cornelius with the shadow of a human, while his little Pooka face is so angry. Just. Cool! And the Mercedes illustrations are some of the artist's best, I love how her watercolor style makes everything look with the character. And, of course, my only complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough art on the site. ^_~ (No warnings/pairings.)
-
Okami/Odin Sphere - Sunny Spot [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I came here to look for Odin Sphere fanart and wound up distracted by the Okami fanart as well. It's just so... cute and chibi and pretty! The colors are these light pastels and the images are all these little scribbles of various characters and I wound up totally charmed by the site. The artist is actually quite talented, when she works on a more fully detailed piece, they come out really pretty, but I actually enjoy her little diary art pieces as well because they're just so chibi and CUTE and have really pretty colors. ....I'm explaining this badly, I think. But I really do adore the site! There's not a lot of Odin Sphere art on the page, especially not compared to the Okami section, but what's here is really cute and full of potential, I'd love to see more from the artist. (Maybe a smidge of Waka/Amaterasu or Oki/Kai if you want to see them that way, a little Ingway/Mercedes, but it's mostly a gen site.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - Powder Snow [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I really like the colors of this artist's style, they're the kind I'm often weak to, soft and bright and kind of jewel-toned. It didn't hurt at all that the artist seems very fond of Luke/Tear, which a little too rare for my liking, of course. ^_~ It's one of those sites where... I wish the artist had drawn more because I could really have used a fix for ToA art, especially this particular pairing and I honestly liked her work a lot. The comics are very cutem, but I think the real fun is in the regular images--though, the colored comic is so pretty, too. (Luke/Tear.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - KH [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was drawn to this site because the art of Anise looked really strong, it had that CG/cel-style sort of look that I really like when done well and I... yeah, I liked this site a lot. It's not necessarily a site that's going to work for everyone, but I didn't mind the artist's style and I wound up liking that she seems to clearly like all of the girls from the game and draws them all super-cute. The artist's favorite is definitely Anise, but there's enough art of the other girls and even the other characters that I liked the site a lot. Oh! Plus, the site is totally worth going to for the genderswap art with the main party! Luke as a girl is cute, but it's the images of Tear as a guy that actually impressed me the most, the artist did a really cool job with the character design there. (No real warnings/pairings.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - Yumecyoko [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, goddammit, I was trying to avoid recommending this site, because there was the occasional super-cute chibi image that I really liked, but most of the art didn't catch me that much. Until I started going through all of the gallery pages and the artist started drawing Ion/Anise and Sync/Arietta and a little Ion/Arietta and it's all these pastel pinks and greens that work so well together for these couples and then I was kind of quietly a goner. The site may not appeal to everyone, but if you like these pairings, I think you'll enjoy seeing the handful of art that the artist has here--I really do like how much detail the artist puts into the background in many of them, it makes the art that much more solid. :D (Some Ion/Anise, Sync/Arietta, maybe a little other het.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - Fantastic Tomorrow [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, there are only, like, four pages of oekaki art on this site, but goddamn that's some hot oekaki art. Something about the artist's style just works for me, the kind that shows how talented the artist is if she's able to do this with a mouse, you know? I mean, jesus, even her chat log art looks really hot! Her characters look right, all the proportions and the colors (which are kind of flat, but in that way that looks really cool) and, okay, maybe I was helped along by the two or three Asch/Natalia images on the site. If you're not one for oekaki, you're probably not going to be impressed by this site, but if you like that sort of thing, this site is kinda fantastic. ♥ (A smidge of Asch/Natalia, but it's mostly a gen site.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The artist on this site starts out a little shakey, some of the earlier art is not to my taste, but by the time I got to her current art, she was doing some really beautiful stuff. There are a few of Leon from ToD that are just so fantastically done that it really makes me want to start recommending art for the series. ~_~ But her Tales of the Abyss stuff is really very nice, there's a lovely one of Ion and Arietta reading in a field (with a liger, I think?) and some really fantastic Halloween illustrations with the cast. There's a lot of really nice art in the log/oekaki/sketches section as well! It's one of those sites that I just happened to stumble over tonight and it made an excellent fix. I would love to see more from this artist, too. *__* (No real warnings/pairings.)
-
Tales of the Abyss/Howl's Moving Castle - NEST OF NO.35 [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I actually came here seeking fanart for something else (possibly Reborn! or Bleach or something) but got totally distracted by the Tales of the Aybss fanart. It's not something I would have sought out myself, but the colors are so lovely and the detail is really fantastic and the artist is just really talented. Her Jade is really, really pretty and her Anise is just lovely and there are comics making fun of Dist! How can I not love a site that teases Dist? Actually, the artist draws a really gorgeous Dist, but she totally teases him in much the same way the game teased him and I love that. ♥ The site mostly focuses on Jade and his relationships with the people around him, but you also get the occasional Luke/Tear image or a beautiful pin-up style sexy pose Natalia that I was not object to at all. Much the same can be said about the HMC art, it's all this really detailed, beautifully colored art that's often kind of stunning to look at. (A fair amount of Peony/Jade, some potential Jade/Anise, maybe a little other, but a lot of gen, too.)
