Here's the thing about movies in 2015: I watched loads of films but only a select few are good enough to get into my favorite list. I feel like I'm neglecting a lot of movies but the truth is, if I don't remember them from the top of my head when I made my shortlist of selections, then it's not worth being in there.
For the first time ever I also felt like making a Most Hated Movies of the Year. I try not to do that in previous years but this year I've watched some really shitty films this year (Fantastic Four, Attack on Titan Parts 1 and 2, and 50 f*cking Shites) and ones that disappointed me so thoroughly I feel like bashing them (yeah, Spectre, I'm looking at you). But since I can just mentioned them here, I figured there's no point in making a separate list.
Writing about movies this year, I keep using the phrase "2015 is the year of the spy" so it's not too strange to see this Favorite list dominated by them. I can only hope that next year there are more spies; there can never be enough espionage on screen. Also, hey! There's another Tom Hiddleston movie in the Favorite list this year. I hope there will be more Hiddles next year. We can never have enough Hiddleston, right? ♥

Honorable Mentions
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - This Guy Ritchie movie is so far under other Guy Ritchie films that I liked in recent years so it took a second viewing on Blu-ray to figure out that I actually like it. The period setting and Armie Hammer's general handsomeness won me over. It also has the added bonus of a very, very cool soundtrack.
The Imitation Game - Last year's film that I only got to watch early this year, this movie is nonetheless one of the best spy films every made. Alan Turing is an admirable figure and Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed him wonderfully. But the star of the film for me is Keira Knightley, who is pitch perfect and marvelous. Love it.
Krampus - I like to be surprised when I watch a movie and I was really surprised by a lot of things in Krampus. The story is immensely fun, the creature design amazing (those blasted gingerbread monsters!) and the ending perfect. I really wish they made more holiday movies like this!
Far From The Madding Crowd - This is a movie that opened my eyes to how charming Matthias Schoenaerts is as an actor. The story's familiar - it's been rehashed over and over now - but the cast is spectacular enough that it feels new and more romantic than ever. I was swept away.
Into The Woods - I finally got to watch this 2014 film in 2015. The movie didn't come here so I had to rely on the Blu-ray release... and it fulfilled my expectation of a great musical. And while I'm sure it plays much better on stage, I find this cinematic version a fitting tribute.
