I welcomed the new year with a small family gathering and then a small trip to the beach with Sis#4. Relatively tame but it was an enjoyable day. For dinner we met up with Sis#3. Sis#4 ordered Kobe beef which ended up being more than 2/3 of the bill o_o. But she really liked it, though Sis#3 was put off by the fact that it was literary still bleeding on the plate. I tried a bit and thought it was good, but nothing inspiring the burst of flavour scene à la Ratatouille. It's like that time I tried caviar - I think my palate is just not meant for these luxurious foods because I don't really taste what's so special about them. Subtleties in flavour are lost on me, unfortunately.
So, my to-do list of 2012 recap - I managed to complete more than half! Good enough for me :) I now know how to knit (one stitch) and develop black and white film. It's always nice learning to do new things. I didn't cross it off the list but I actually did manage to make a pinhole camera in time; just didn't use it until the new year. I used an old Pringles can and this is my result:
I decided not to make a goals list for this year but I do have things I want to accomplish yearly - travel to at least two new countries, and have one big experience that I've never done before (bonus if it's out of my comfort zone). Those are really my biggest priorities. Last year was New Zealand and Thailand, and skydiving for the first time :) I've already started on this year's - I've changed my mind about going to Cambodia and instead I'm planning on going to Turkey in February! I've already bought a ticket! whee! So it would really suck if my vacation time ended up not being approved. And this'll also be a big new experience for me in that I'll be travelling around there completely solo - no one who's going with me, and no one I'm meeting up. It's slightly scary but I'm totally up for it. ^_^
This year also signifies my last year at work! I know I've been lucky getting this position and all, but I am quite ready to move on from it. And in 2014, hopefully i'll be taking my Masters.
Let's make this year a good one!
