And did we all hear the thing about how Bush henchwoman Monica Goodling was asking potential Justice Department hirees the following question?:

"What is it about George W. Bush that makes you want to serve him?"

I literally cracked up when I heard that and it's still hilarious. It's as though these people are trying to be stereotypically evil. The Justice Department, you see, is supposed to be objective and apolitical and this is tied into that thing from awhile ago you may have heard about where the Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez was firing people for being too Democratic. In every domain in which the Bush Administration has been able to hand out government power to people, they have done it almost entirely on the basis of pure politics. Potential hirees were not screened for competence; instead they were screened for stuff like their opinion on abortion and the death penalty and so forth.

What's even worse is that Bush himself and his closest minions aren't even real conservatives. They're internationalists, they've vastly increased the size and power of the central government, they've driven us deep into debt, and they view the Christian Right as contemptible buffoons to be manipulated for their votes and loyalty. They've capitalized on the near-desperate nostalgia of the American Right and used it as a springboard for their own creepy "What we need is a global police state to protect the interests of huge corporations" agenda.

Of course, many people on the Left have totally failed to realize this and seem to have a mentality of, "Oh boy, I can't wait till we get in power so that we can use the Patriot Act and that Homegrown Terrorism bill to harass homophobes!" To anyone who is thinking this: Fuck you. Go read the Constitution sometime. It'll be a change of pace from all the "Amerikkka" garbage you've somehow managed to digest over the years. Warts notwithstanding the U.S. is still one of history's great civilizations. And much of that is because of our basis in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and the general spirit they represent, all of which are being forgotten as the Left and Right use increasingly draconian and totalitarian measures against one another in their stupid little Culture tug-of-War.

But no matter what happens, in half a year Rufus W. Shinra will be gone from the White House forever and that's something to celebrate so I shall try to look on the bright side.
