Something was wrong. The away mission had gone well, but something was off, something was not right. The day had started out well. Things were looking up. But now... Scotty, who'd been talking to Keenser, paused in the middle of the conversation, as if alerted by some sixth sense that something was about to happen. He frowned, and tried to shake the feeling; he didn't believe in premonitions. But something had been bothering him, hovering on the edge of his mind, and he realized as he stared off into the depths of the engine room that it was Miss Gaila's computer that was bothering him. The sensors had been going haywire, and the away team had brought back some cargo, and.... He shook his head again, and returned to his conversation with Keenser. He was being paranoid, that's all.
The engine was quiet. Not quiet in the sense that it was making no noise - it was always loud - but in the sense that everything was working perfectly. Everything was fine. Pushing any thoughts of paranoia out of his mind, Scotty continued his conversation with Keenser, leaning casually against the wall next to the Jefferies tube he'd been working in. He was halfway through replying to the alien's latest question when a distant rumble broke through the mechanical sounds of the engine room, shaking the floor beneath his feet.
"What was that?" Without waiting for a reply from Keenser, he hurried off to find the nearest comm station, to find out what was happening to his ship.
