I left Stillwater at 6 AM on Sunday morning and drove straight through to Woodstock in 13 hours and 15 minutes. Thanks to my new Garmin GPS I know all the statistics of the trip; my average speed while moving (over 65 mph), average speed overall (over 60 mph), time stopped (55.3 minutes). I did an amazing job considering I ran into a snowstorm in Michigan and a multi-car accident that slowed me down a bit for at least a half hour.
I had a young pup at the Canadian border whom I had difficulty understanding. It was a two-way problem, but we worked through it and I was let in without much delay.
Driving like that is very hard on the body. It will take a couple of days or more to recover, but I did sleep really well last night. The one thing I did differently this time was, I took a sleeping pill early in the evening the night before I got up at 5 AM to leave. Usually, having to wake up at a specific time for anything, but especially a trip, makes it next to impossible for me to get a decent night’s sleep. Needless to say, I slept like a rock and the alarm on my iPhone woke me up. But the downside was that I was still sleepy for the first 3 or 4 hours of my trip. Neither food nor coffee seemed to help, but by noon I was good to go and had no issues for the rest of the trip.
Most of our snow has melted in my absence, which is good to see, although the forecast is for heavy snow by Wednesday.
Robbie had a nice Valentine’s Day card for me as well as a beautiful little potted plant and a Timmy’s Valentine’s Day donut! I was totally taken by surprise. I was glad I had stopped for a small cup of steeped tea. It was perfect with the donut!
