You haven't probably ever seen me around here, because I've been inactive in the LJ world for quite some time, and therefore I should probably have made my first comment in a long while something more along the lines of "Hey gang, I'm back! *Waves to all*"
Unfortunately, what I'm actually here to say is that this comment of yours is just about the most imperious, rude, and completely out-of-line comment I've ever seen in this comm. So you sent four emails to authors commanding them to finish their stories and got "only" one response in return for your effort? You know what my response would have been, had you been silly enough to send such a missive to me?
It would have been somewhere between telling you which part of your anatomy in which to insert your demand and which part of my anatomy you should either bite or kiss

Holding other people to your personal standards is silly in an environment in which you don't personally get to set the standards, because you are destined to be disappointed. You don't get to dictate when someone is "allowed" to show the world their first draft; it's not up to you to decree that posting a fanfic commits the author to finishing that fic come hell or high water. You are definitely entitled to believe that authors are writing for others if they choose to share their work publicly, but that doesn't make it true.
And you certainly may find it frustrating that people leave works unfinished -- we all do -- but you still have to live with the fact that it will happen from time to time and that there is no mechanism to change that, nor any real, actual moral imperative for authors to not do it. It's something you would like to be true, not an actual reality.
Just because you have a button doesn't mean it's an attack on you when it gets pushed. Your issues are just that - your issues. It's not everyone else's

Not providing you with what you want does not make anyone a poseur. Having a different way of doing things does not make anyone a poseur. Not finishing a work in progress does not make anyone a poseur

Everyone likes what they like and you shouldn't have to defend your likes. Sadly, for whatever reason, we do feel the need. I don't think that it's so much which side has more people; it's that one side is simply 'louder'.
You aren't writing for fandom, you're writing for you.
On the other hand, though *sneaks part of following comment, too*, sometimes it's not as easy as simply requesting a conclusion. I'm not speaking for most of fandom - generally, not just Tin Man - but fanfic isn't professional writing.
If your career is writing, then a "real life" excuse is invalid, for the most part. In terms of fanfic, real life does grant a pass. Getting the next chapter of a story out isn't going to pay the rent; a family member gets sick; a job is lost, etc.
Yeah, it's a crap answer, I know. I've used it myself.
But, look at it from the author's side: Maybe it's not that they're holding out for a certain number of comments before posting the next part okay, I know a few authors who have

No need to apologize - all of us have suffered from a broken filter now and then - I'm the queen of broken!filter posts! :D Also, I didn't really see a problem with your tone. But that's me :)
Instead they opt for crawling away, and it does make me want to shake them. Yes, just man up and say it's over.
It is rather aggrivating, yes. Perhaps, with school getting ready to start up, the world will get back into a balance? *fingers crossed*
That said, the fandom has a definite ebb and flow - we're just in the middle of low-tide at the moment. *apologies for the ocean metaphor*
Also: I really do have good intentions, just a short temper and a loud mouth.
*latches and snuggles* Welcome to our loony bin! :D
