He forced himself to smile through gritted teeth as he knocked on the door. House warming party, this should be his party. His and Jason’s, not David’s. Jason should be his too.
Jason opened the door, throwing his arms around Michael almost instinctively. He wrapped his free one around Jason’s waist, never wanting to let go but all too soon the younger man was pulling away. “Thanks for coming Michael,” he said, with a genuine smile on his face.
Michael smiled, oh so fake but thankfully Jason can’t tell. “Of course, you’re both my friends, I’m over what happened.” Oh, if only that were true. “I brought you two something.” He handed the wrapped box to Jason before backing out of the door again. “I can’t stay though, have a meeting to get to. Have fun Jase.” He’s gone before Jason can register it.
Walking away, he had a wild smirk on his face when he heard the screams coming from the house.
