“David?” Neal took note of the glaze in his eyes, of his stumble when he walked closer. He’d been drinking, and not just a little bit, though he was nowhere near passing out. Yet.
“Hey baby.” His words slurred as he came closer, hand reaching out to stroke Neal’s cheek. Neal could smell the alcohol, and the scent almost made him sick.
“I thought you’d quit drinking.” He tried to step out of David’s way, but he wasn’t fast enough and the slap to his cheek almost sent him to the ground. Neal tried to put on a happy face. “Babe, you know how you get. Why don’t we just go lie down?” No, those weren’t the words he should’ve used.
“Oh? How do I get Neal? Maybe we should refresh my memory." As he came closer, Neal immediately regretted speaking. He couldn’t go through this, not again, he still had bruises from the last time that he was sure would never heal now.
