My left arm is being all weird. I think I slept on it wrong, and the wonky feeling lasted all weekend, so I booked a massage appointment for yesterday.
And, ouch. My massage therapist really went to town. So now my arm is bruised, and feels swollen, and my fingers hurt, but at least the weird misplaced-elbow and no-finger-strength sensation is gone.
She's also acupuncturing the crap out of my face and back in an attempt to stave off my hay fever. I am very curious to see if it will work. If not, it was worth a shot, and if it does, yay, I can be outside in the sun for the first time in years! I'm only allergic to grass, and that doesn't really start up until mid-to-late May, depending on the weather, but she said better to start before the symptoms do. Right now I have two mini-pins inside the tops of my ears. She says they will fall out by themselves in about a week's time, but if they bother me, I can just scratch them out myself. They kinda hurt when I touch them, but not otherwise, so I think I'll just leave them in...
The kitchen is coming along. The painter has been at it (and our hallway) for about 3 days, and the carpenter started up yesterday. He already put in the three tall cupboards, and it's gonna look so good!
Our entire house is currently like a really cluttered version of Tetris, because not only do we have our awesome moving box fort, but now also the new kitchen in boxes, and our new dishwasher, oven, and stovetop. And THEN the painter asked politely if we wouldn't mind clearing out the dining room, so he'd have enough for a day's work today. Which was where we were storing the kitchen-boxes! And me, not taking any chances, also removed any and all chotzkes and movable items. (He's painting the ceiling, so...) Our living room, our office, our guest room is filled to the brim with the stuff we had in our kitchen, our mud room, our hallway, and our dining room. We can just make it onto the couch, but otherwise, yeah, our house functions as a two-room apartment at present. :) I am SO glad I made the utility room a comfortable space! I don't think either of us had expected things to be stacked to this spectacular degree.
I'm also very relieved that we don't have Astrid taking up the guest bedroom right now. I don't think she'd be comfortable sleeping on top of the doors for the tall cupboards, and the curtains from the dining room, and sharing space with our coat tree, our welcome mat, and the overhead lamp from the kitchen. And I have no idea where else we would put all that stuff, on top of making space for her things in the closet! But, we have twelve days until she moves in. A lot can happen in twelve days.
We did manage to have guests over last weekend, in between boxes and paint buckets and dust! Our backyard neighbors, whom we've been friendly with for about a year, and have been talking about getting together with for about as long. It finally happened, and it was a great success, and they're really cool people, and they stayed till 4 in the morning, so they must think we're alright, too! It was a completely spontaneous thing - we started chatting over the fence (which involved me standing on tiptoes on a chair), and we were talking about their building projects, and our new kitchen, and then I was like, "haha, yeah, so when you're sick of looking at your own half-finished projects, come on over and look at ours for a nice change!" and they were like, "great, what time?" and we were like, "how about six o'clock?" and they were like, "cool, we'll bring the potato salad!" and I yanked out a couple of pork tenderloins from the freezer, and then we had a LOT of wine and finally got to know each other properly, and yes, omg, it was so great!
Our Sunday was kinda short, though, on account of getting to bed so late. For once, Sven nabbed the massive hangover, whereas I was feeling pretty good, albeit a bit sleepy towards the efternoon, so I ended up cleaning up everything from the night before by myself, which is kinda time consuming when you have to do all the dishes by hand. And when a full bottle of red wine got smashed on the floor of the utility room sometime during the night. Glass everywhere. I'm still finding shards. Oh well, a small sacrifice for the party gods. I just really hope Molly doesn't find any with her paws, but so far she seems ok.
