I just remembered I have this account, and I'm suffering a huge psychological burden right now with a massive self-imposed recording process, so I'm going to relieve myself here by just unloading massive amounts of things no-one else will read.
So here goes my journaling for the demos I'm calling Use Your Allusion, albums I, II, and III. To catch you (i.e. ME) up, I've exactly ONE double length verse to finish on the first one, and am about to embark on the pre-production for II. Song list as of right now will be:
1. Repiphanies
2. Throw Me Your Quarters
3. A Reverence For All Life
4. song 47
5. Ourselves Alone
6. Christmas Morning
7. Bed Sheet Umbrella
8. She Saw God
9. Promenade of Promises
10. Big Sur
11. Would've, Could've, Should've
12. Losing Sleep to Slaughter
My foremost concern is that this batch won't be nearly as heavy as the first, and thus wildly inconsistent with what I'm trying to achieve here which is three coherent albums that all belong together in succession. I can take various measures, however, to goose the material and nudge it into a heavier territory:
-I've got a song stem, a good intro/verse that goes into a great pre-chorus that leads into a wobbly chorus called 'All In On 7-2 Off', that is VERY aggressive and heavy, and if I find things going in a softer direction with this I can always throw this one in as a 13th song.
-'Promenade of Promises' is currently in drop-C tuning and can be moved down to drop-A if the album really needs it, but I doubt that will service the song in any way. Sacrificing the good of the song for the good of the album is kind of a shitty way to go.
-'Big Sur' is a fucking enigma. It's a great song as of right now, but it is NOT a hard rock song at-fucking-all. It'll be interesting to toss that through the pre-production wringer and see what comes out the other end.
-'Throw Me Your Quarters' was once jammed on by a band I hoped to assemble post-Mantra (my high school band), and was very heavy. I remember jamming on the song for four hours with two friends and just being beaten up physically by it at the end of the day. I need to maintain that. I also need to make sure it grows up.
-'Anatomy of a Lie' is also a really old song that I'm currently holding in the third set of songs (Use Your Allusion III) that I can swap out with something else to give an added boost to Use Your Allusion II.
-'Repiphanies' is also another enigma. It's so scatterbrained at the moment that it's almost daunting to try and make some sort of musical sense out of it. Two different tempos, two different time signatures, two different keys. For whatever reason, the two elements of that song seem married together in my head, so perhaps I should really fuck with it in pre-production and see what I can make of it. It's all just a big box of Legos.
And that's it. 'Quiet As It's Kept' MUST be finished today so I can start on all the rest of this. Wish me luck, everyone (no one).
