The Hump-Day Dance...Is Your Chance...To Do The Hump.

May 03, 2006 22:37

Today was a great day.

And I needed one...bad...especially after my beloved Habitants were ousted from the playoffs by those up-and-comers from that hockey hotbed of Raleigh, North Carolina, last night.

I woke up at 5:30am so I could go to work; Lindsey and I had switched shifts so I opened the store today. The day went by like a breeze - and it was rather breezy today - but it was great. A nice, bright sun shiny morning, followed by a few hours of putting away our delivered products, having the chance to run into Naomi (ex-co-worker, ex-assistant-manager, current friend-fo'-life - we gotta hang out again soon), and filling out the rest of my shift with some bookkeeping and invoicing. At 1:20pm, 10 minutes before I was due to go home, I bailed early and went to the bank for the boss, who had taken the day off; and so, that was my day!

I hopped from the Bank of Shell immediately to my own, Bank of Montreal, so I could deposit my hard-earned paycheque, and re-arranged my Mutual Funds contributions a bit. I won't bore you with all the details, but hey, for all of you out there working, invest whatever you can spare into something like this; I'm getting like $400 interest every three months, and it's compounding ever quarter because not only is it maturing on its own, but I'm tossing in an extra $225 a month now. :)

Sorry about the boring bank talk. My dad's worked at the bank for years and it's trickled down to me, and I'm pretty careful with my money, and try to have a lot of foresight. This is what I like to call my rainy-day fund...or, if you like, my "NEW CAR/WEDDING/MORTGAGE DOWNPAYMENT/RETIREMENT FUND". Though, I don't see myself needing a new car for some time, nor a mortgage, nor am I lucky enough to retire any time soon. And the wedding...well, I need to find that lucky lady first. Or they need to find me and settle. :p

After that, I fiddled around with Livejournal and Nexopia, noticing a lot of new messages and people befriending me and such - I love meeting new people. Especially cool ones. And by all accounts, everyone on my friends lists at both sites are pretty sweet, no matter how much or little I know of them.

Speaking of which, thanks to all of you for posting in my now-famous post about my apparent homosexual tendencies. I think that's the most replies I've ever gotten to any post I've ever made! I was also pleased that someone in the Vancouver LJ community was able to hook me up with a link that led me to this site; it is the site of Bob Buckley, who was the composer of one of my favourite songs that made its debut at Expo 86, which was happening here in Vancouver exactly 20 years ago.

That entire fair was an eye-opening experience to me. I was 6 (and later turned 7) when the six-month fair was going on. Prior to this international flavour entering my life, all I really cared about were cartoons, playing in the sandbox, and making sure to not get into trouble after getting into fisticuffs with my sisters. Midway through the fair, my life changed - I don't know why, maybe this is when I first REALLY had a details, quasi-intimate experience with the rest of the world - and I liked it. That, and just going downtown every Saturday afternoon/evening was a huge deal - especially when you lived (and still do) 30 minutes outside of town in the suburbs. I have memories of my life from earlier ages, but the largest chunk of memories from my early life comes from the summer spent at Expo 86. I still remember one of the main theme songs of the fair, "Canada: This is My Home", and finally today I found a downloadable version - an MOV file of all things - but hey, that's something!

So yeah. The fair was a huge deal for Vancouver - it was the city's 100th birthday in 1986, and it truly put us on the world map as an international city and all that - but it was a big deal for me too, as it was the first thing that really gave my life direction.

My sister Michelle also arrived today. She's the one that got married a few months back so she could stay in Cleveland, Ohio, with her then-best friend (now husband - and my brother-in-law, which still sounds weird) so she could stay in the country. There was mixed feelings on this - not who she was marrying but the timing and extraneous situation and all, with none of us able to get there for their city hall wedding - but it's all water under the bridge now. Anyway, she and her hubby Marc are here for the next ten days, and we just spent the day catching up and being silly. That's what siblings do - especially when you and your three other siblings are as big dumbasses as we like to be.

It was like a Saving Private Brian free-for-all. :)

After that, I worked on some more levels in FarCry on Xbox, and then I got here to chillax with ya'll. 'Twas a good day. :)
