My Gay Friend - A TDS/TCR Toss

Nov 13, 2008 16:34

Hey,

I was watching some old Daily Show interviews with David Rakoff earlier this week. I absolutely love David Rakoff and his writing! David is probably my favorite guest star on the Daily Show because he is one of the very few people who can make Jon laugh and giggle so much! Its very fun to watch. Plus, the interview is not formal at all, it like Jon and David are having a normal conversation. Its great!
Well, just recently, Dan Savage was on the Colbert Report - making it the third time he's been on the show. (David Rakoff was on the Daily Show three times too.) Stephen introduces Dan as  a "friend of the show" - a gay friend at that. Dan does an impressive job at playing along with Stephen's personality and constantly makes Stephen crack a smile (Jon is usually the only person who can do that).

So, this gave me an idea for a Toss fanfic. I really wish they would do exactly this! It would be so funny!
Here it is. I hope you like it! ^_^

Title: My Gay Friend - A TDS/TCR Toss

My Gay Friend - A TDS/TCR Toss

Jon smiled widely as the camera zoomed in on him, and then yelled above the audience’s applause. “Well, before we go, let’s check in with our friend, Stephen Colbert. Stephen!”

The screen changed so that the viewers could see Jon on one side and Stephen on the other.

Stephen chewed on the end of his pen and adjusted his glasses.

“Jon.” He said matter-of-factly.

Jon scooted his chair closer so that he could lean on his desk.

“How you doin’, Stephen?” Jon tried to hide the smile growing on his face. “So, if I understand this correctly, Stephen, you have a gay friend now, huh?”

“Yes, I do, Jon.” Stephen replied, removing the pen from his teeth. “And I’m proud to call him a friend.”

Jon smirked playfully. “I’m glad. Can I meet him? Is he there?”

“Yes, he is, Jon.” Stephen said, scooting his chair over. Then Dan Savage appeared at Stephen’s side. Dan kneeled on the floor next to him and looked into the camera. The audience cheered loudly.

“This is Dan Savage, Jon. And he is my gay friend.” Stephen announced proudly, draping an arm across Dan’s shoulders. Dan smiled nervously and squirmed slightly in Stephen’s embrace.

Jon’s smirk grew wider, and he covered his mouth with his fist.

“Its very nice to meet you, Dan.” Jon smiled warmly, and waved at Dan.

“Thanks. Its nice to meet you too, Jon.” Dan replied, appearing more comfortable to be talking to Jon.

Jon focused his attention back to Stephen and said, “You know, Stephen, I have a gay friend too.” Jon scooted his chair over, pulling a chair next to him, and then David Rakoff moved into view, taking a seat.

The audience’s cheers and laughter grew even louder.

"This is David Rakoff." Jon put his arm around David’s shoulders, mimicking Stephen. David did the same to Jon. Both smiled warmly at each other before looking back into the camera. “He’s a really great guy,” Jon continued. “And I’m especially proud to call him my friend - my gay friend.”

Stephen glared jealously at Jon. “Yeah, well, my gay friend and I are best buddies. We’re close!” Dan glanced nervously at Stephen, looking as though he didn’t agree with Stephen’s choice of words. Jon noticed Dan’s uneasiness and felt bad for the guy.

“To the looks of it,” Jon said. “I think I treat my gay friend a lot better than you do yours. David and I can have honest and meaningful conversations. What can you and Dan have?”

Stephen paused for a second and looked at Dan, who looked away timidly. Stephen patted Dan’s shoulder and turned his gaze back to the camera. “Dan and I have good conversations too! We talk about all kinds of things!”

Jon quirked an eyebrow. “Without you cutting him off and telling him what to think or to do?”

Stephen grumbled, finding no point in denying the truth. “Yeah, well, I ask Dan for advice on the show! Ha!”

“Well, you know what, Stephen?” Jon taunted. “My gay friend is cooler than yours!”

“Whatever, Jon!” Stephen yelled, rolling his eyes. “My gay friend could totally take your gay friend!” The audience burst into laughter. Jon did too. Even Stephen cracked a smile. David smiled and Dan shook his head.

After Jon was able to stop himself, he said, “I got a GLAAD award in 2005! The gay community loves me!”

“Yeah? Well, I got a GLAAD award last year, so in-your-face!” Stephen stuck his tongue out.

Jon then looked seriously at him. “Um, Stephen, did you even keep that award? I thought you said that you threw it in the trash the day after the gay community gave it to you?”

The audience let out an unanimous, “Oooohhh!”

Stephen went quiet, clearly embarrassed. He then looked at Dan, who saw it as a perfect opportunity to get Stephen back.

“So much for showing gratitude. Why am I not surprised?” Dan shook his head at Stephen and stood up and left.

“Wait! Dan!” Stephen protested. “It wasn’t like that at all! I swear!” Stephen then jumped up from his seat to follow Dan. “Dan?!”

The audience cheered happily and Jon smiled smugly as the camera faded out on Stephen and focused back on him.

“Well, I think that settles that, am I right?” Jon asked David.

“Oh, yeah definitely.” David mirrored his smile and extended a hand.

Jon shook it and announced, “David Rakoff, everybody!” David waved to the audience and then got up to leave.

“And also, thank you to Stephen Colbert and his gay friend, Dan Savage.” Jon giggled heartily. “That’s our show, everybody. Thanks for watching!”
