2016 In Review

So - goals for 2016. How did I do?

1. Run a PR. Any distance.

Shockingly, I did not achieve this mark in 2016. While I ran a few races, none were terribly competitive, and most fell into the category of "I'm running this to keep in shape and not break any land speed records." I'm comfortable with that, given that 2016 was a year of major life change on the relationship and job fronts. I will continue to keep it on the list for 2017, as I've already got a late spring marathon on the books, as well as the Cherry Blossom 10-miler, and training starts for both of those in January.

2. More regular physical activity.

This one was unevenly achieved. I did start fitting in a walk around campus most days around lunch time when I was still located on the Roybal Campus. When I moved to the Chamblee Campus in August, I was able to fit in a lunch time walk most days as well, though that habit went completely out the window when I returned from being off for 3 weeks for wedding/honeymoon. I have identified two fitness classes (TRX on Wednesday afternoons, High Intensity Interval Training on Fridays) that fit my schedule most weeks at the Chamblee campus gym, and I've set aside that time on my calendar and set calendar reminders to register for the classes in advance. Telework days are a little more challenging - though I typically run in the mornings of telework days, that doesn't automatically translate into standing up and moving around during the day. I have set alarms on my fit-bit to tell me to get up and stretch my legs every couple of hours, though, which is a start.

3. Increased work networking.

Achieved in spades, as documented here. Never underestimate your professional network!

4. Maintain my gains in yoga.

I have to say, shelling out the money for a yearly pass made it very easy and convenient to do this. Most Mondays, I attended Yin Yoga, and while a second class per week usually wasn't in the cards, I worked very hard to fit one in if I happened to miss the Monday session. Achievements maintained.

5. Declutter.

We successfully got rid of duplicate kitchen gear and donated or tossed older items that were replaced with things from our wedding registry - though there are still some items that don't have a home yet, so there is still work to be done on this front. I did also go through all of my clothes using the KonMari method, as advocated by Marie Kondo. Turns out, picking up individual items and asking yourself if they bring you joy, while hokey as all get out, does result in you clearing out of your wardrobe items that you will never wear again. I probably need to do this at least one more time to really get it right, though. Books and papers still TBD.

6. Successfully plan a wedding without anyone losing their minds.

WINNER. As evidenced here, here and here. So much awesomeness in one weekend!

Still thinking through challenges for 2017 - stay tuned! Who knows, perhaps updating this thing more often may be one of the goals :-P

awesomeness, goals, atlanta, phps, running
