I should warn you Mr. Taco...

So, I was watching The Basketball Diaries last night on instant Netflix. BTW, if you've seen the movie, can you answer the following: How the hell did Jim Carroll's mom afford the tuition to a Catholic high school? She cleaned hotel rooms. Those schools ain't cheap. The only reason why I didn't go to one was because of tuition. Was it through a basketball scholarship? Are NYC Catholic high schools cheap? I digress...

I've complained before about the selection over at instant Netflix. There are a limited number of movies that interest me. After the movie was done, I browsed the Top 50. My eyes couldn't believe it: The Dana Carvey Show, season one.

In 1996, SNL alum Dana Carvey had a very funny but short-lived variety show on ABC. Because I was a huge fan of SNL, I watched and loved it. In fact, in my tapes, I have the first episode (the infamous one where President Clinton was breastfeeding babies, puppies, kittens and other animals.) and the second episode. It eventually got canceled due to ratings and content. Such a shame because it was hilarious. Watching the episodes again after 10+ years, I realized that this show could've thrived if it was on HBO instead of ABC. It was on the wrong network. ABC was acquired by Disney, and I'm sure the bosses didn't approve of such weirdness.

Without further ado, I present my favorite skits from The Dana Carvey Show in no particular order (and based on what I could find on YouTube):

1. Waiters who are nauseated by food: Recognize the two waiters? Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) and Steve Carell (The Office) were cast members on this show. I think this show was partly the reason why I love their work today.

2. Food Network After Dark: I think the laughs is what makes it funny.

3. Strayhound: I'm scared of planes too so I totally relate.

4. Germans who say nice things: German is a harsh language.

5. Drive up drive-offs: I remember being confused the first time I saw this. It's such a simple sketch, but it's so hilarious. The screeching sounds the car makes adds a nice touch.
