Sg Gay Men - How To Read/Understand
The local gay community runs on this virtual community, e.g. mIRC, Web Portals, even Blogs/Journals. Most of my friends meet their men through the Internet and seldom through the clubs (shy or coy, they proclaim), so they then would have to read the jargon and understand the different Internet nuances that shows your interest for the night.
So those seeking "for the moment friend(s)" then they would have to search the virtual chat rooms to seek those with similar interest. A typical conversation goes something like this:
Guy28: intro, seeking, B/T/F and any kinks?
Me26: 180/75/chn, anything interestin, Flex and enjoys groups.
Guy28: :) wow have any friends with you yet? :P
And the conversation continues. Seldom the guys get coy. Most just lay their cards on the table and hope for the best. More often than not, those who are chinese, of athletic/muscular built, and with a picture of themselves despite the degree of ugliness, would be snapped up faster than aunties grabbing bags at the Prada Sale.
As for the web portals, it's all about pictures and who you know. Basically, sex is up there, along with seeking a boyfriend and maybe seeking a sugar daddy. And at the same time, they have to keep their image of being decent, with the naughty acts alive and kicking. Knowing so-and-so is always the best way to get proof that you are of sure character, and so image in front of peers is very, very important. Here the slang is very important to swear by:
looks don't matter to me = i am ok with any guy that must be good looking to me.
just seeking friends = i want a boyfriend asap but have to wait before we fuck.
seeking matured thinking = you must be a working adult with lots of spending power and must spend on me.
Ave bod/looks = must look at least ave best is above ave.
Such is the lingo; always read between the lines when reading a profile. Seldom you get one that would be honest and frank.
As for Journals/Blogs? Think high school; just in a virtual form, and peer pressure the norm. You are judged by what you write, and having a journal just shows what sort of guy you are or want to be. Luckily there is no prom night! Just whenever you are seen outside, be aware that someone might have seen your journal and believes to know you well. So welcome to the word of virtual community drama, where it's a must to be you - the so-called decent-but-sometimes-susceptible-to-temptation person.
