I was so nice outside yesterday! We nearly reached 60 degrees, which is unusual for Chicago in February! Of course I went to the barn and I was greeted with a VERY muddy horse! I groomed him as best I could but he was SLOPPY. I decided to throw on his bareback pad and go for a ride. I have never ridden bareback before so I was really nervous ( Read more... )

Cooper officially has a new home.  We moved him out of the barn in Naperville and into a four stall barn in Channahon.  The barn in Naperville was great.  I loved the people and it is clean and beautiful but I just couldn't afford it anymore.

On the wake of my wonderful engagement news, the bomb drops.  My mom tells me that she can't afford to help me pay for my horse anymore.  I have to sell him.  She bought me the horse two Christmases ago and said she would pay half of the expenses (there is no way I could do it on my own).  I'm not mad at her...the way this economy is going I'm ( Read more... )

Well Cooper doesn't have an abscess.  He has thrush.  He will have to have some special medicine put in his hoof and a special pad on top to keep the medicine in.  He also has to take some pills (by some I mean 20 pills two times a day) that will increase the blood flow to his hoof.  I can still get on him but only at a walk for now.  My poor fella ( Read more... )

Well, just as I am getting my confidence back to ride my horse, he goes lame.  We were having an awesome lesson today, I was trotting some 20m circles working on his bending.  I know this doesn't sound like much but it is a HUGE deal for me!  We were going round a corner and all of a sudden I notice that he just feels "off".  My instructor had me ( Read more... )
