Kyungsoo wakes up in an alternate realm where fairy tales exist and he happens to be the princess of all of them. Kind of.
•
Something's not right, because Kyungsoo does not remember going to bed at a beach. No, he remembers going to bed in his shared room with Jongin beside him, snoring lightly, and the soft hum of the AC in the background, reminding himself to buy more kimchi tomorrow.
He opens his mouth to ask for someone when he finds himself unable to speak. Frantic, he hurriedly gets up - oh my gosh, where are my clothes?! - and looks around to see if anyone's nearby. His legs feel oddly wobbly and the sand doesn't help much when it comes to walking.
Kyungsoo almost falls again when a pair of arms encircle him, steadying him.
"Are you okay?" a familiar face asks.
Kyungsoo wants to cry in relief. It's Baekhyun! He tries to say something, anything to show his excitement and relief at seeing him, but Baekhyun just stares in confusion.
"Are you lost? Where did you come from? Why are you naked?" he asks, frowning. Kyungsoo's too confused about the entire situation to even bother being embarrassed about his lack of clothes though.
Kyungsoo mouths, "Baekhyun! It's me!" but nothing comes out and Baekhyun doesn't seem to understand.
"Oh, you can't speak," he says, and he sounds disappointed but Kyungsoo thinks he's imaging it. "I guess you're not him then. Well, let's bring you to my castle to get some clothes on you, then we'll eat lunch. You must be starving."
Kyungsoo does not understand what Baekhyun is talking about when he says 'castle,' but as long as he gets to put on clothes and get out of the scorching sand, he's fine with it.
.
.
.
After Kyungsoo gets washed up, he joins Baekhyun in the dining hall for lunch. He admittedly gets lost, but a speaking crab (yeah, Kyungsoo isn't really surprised with anything anymore - the maids who were helping him were singing as they made the beds; Kyungsoo's sure they're all on drugs) leads him the correct way.
As they're eating, Baekhyun grabs Kyungsoo's hand and begins to stare deeply into his eyes. It freaks Kyungsoo out, and he almost throws his water at the other to stop this, but not before one of the helping hands does it for him. He's shocked when a tan servant trips and spills orange juice on Baekhyun, not even bothering with an apology as he's scolded by the elders furiously.
Kyungsoo tries to catch his face, but the servant is hurriedly pushed out of the dining hall. Kyungsoo is oddly disappointed.
"I really like this shirt, too!" Baekhyun cries as he's forced to put on another shirt - which looks exactly like the one he was wearing previously.
Before Kyungsoo can take another bite of his food - it's oddly delicious for such a colorful meal - a messenger boy arrives with an invitation.
"Prince Suho is throwing a ball and inviting everyone. He's looking for a potential spouse," Baekhyun reads aloud. "He's not really my type, though…" Baekhyun puts the invitation down, uninterested now, until he remembers Kyungsoo.
"Oh, would you like to go?" Baekhyun offers happily. "He might like you. You're so quiet, and he talks so much."
Kyungsoo stops himself from snorting at the irony, because Baekhyun is pretty talkative himself. He opens his mouth to say "no," but of course, nothing comes out and Baekhyun is too busy talking to notice Kyungsoo shaking his head.
"I'll even lend you an outfit! But fair warning, my outfits always disintegrate at midnight once worn. Talk about a bummer, right? Can't even party that late anymore! It's some stupid curse my parents put on them after my relationship with this prince," Baekhyun babbles on.
Kyungsoo is so lost in the (boring) conversation that he doesn't even noticed he's changed and pushed into a carriage, Baekhyun singing, "Have fun~" as he waves him off.
.
.
.
Kyungsoo's not really sure how time works in this realm (whatever realm this is), because he left in the afternoon, and after a carriage ride that didn't feel very long, he arrives at Prince Suho's palace at night.
There are others already there, and it's almost like a red carpet show. Kyungsoo, not wanting to attract attention, finds a side entrance. He slowly walks up the stairs, unsure of where to go, but as soon as he enters the palace, he's immediately greeted by a smiling face.
"Hi, I'm Suho."
Kyungsoo opens his mouth to show that he can't speak when, to his surprise, words fall out. "I'm Kyungsoo." Huh, when did his voice return?
"I haven't seen you around before, Kyungsoo! But you have a boyish charm to you that I like, so let's dance!" Suho says, and without another word, Kyungsoo is pulled into the ballroom and forced to move.
"Prince Baekhyun told me he sent you, but he didn't tell me a name. Good thing you're away from that boy, though. He's nice, but a troublemaker. You know, his parents made him learn sailing because he used to party so often," Suho gossips, shaking his head in disapproval as he pushes Kyungsoo back and forth in a motion that's supposedly 'dancing'. "He even had an affair with another prince."
"What's so wrong with that?" Kyungsoo asks, although he's not actually very interested.
"Their families are enemies!" Suho says scandalously, eyes widening in a way Kyungsoo finds humorous. "It was, like, forbidden! Like Romeo and Juliet."
"That ended in tragedy."
"So did their story. I mean, Baekhyun even had his party attire cursed, and then Chanyeol -" Suho shuddered. "Don't get me started on Chanyeol. His family was much harsher."
"What happened -"
"Your majesty," a servant interrupts, and Suho turns around, a little annoyed but still smiling. "It's almost midnight. You have to make an announcement to everyone now."
Suho sighs, but relents. He turns around to say something to Kyungsoo, but the other is already running out of there at full speed. Suho yells after him, but Kyungsoo doesn't look back once. There is no way he is going to let these clothes disappear in front of everyone.
His shoe falls off midway -
- but he runs back quickly to grab it before darting out into the forest.
Suho mourns at the lost of his potential spouse, but is easily distracted when another pretty face enters his sight.
.
.
.
Kyungsoo is glad he worked out with Jongin all those times, or else he wouldn't have been able to run so quickly. He stops in the middle of a forest, panting and out of breath and... lost.
Very, very lost.
He sighs, shaking his head. When will he wake up from this nightmare?
Trudging his way through, he lets out a breath of relief when he spots a mansion. Perhaps any other time, he would've hesitated. But, figuring nothing bad happens in fairy tales, he enters anyway.
"WHO DARES TRESPASS?!" a deep voice demands as soon as Kyungsoo sets foot inside.
Kyungsoo would have been afraid had he not recognized the voice immediately - after all, it's the one he's constantly woken up by. "Chanyeol?"
"HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME, TRESPASSER?!"
"Um. It's me, Kyungsoo." He refrains from rolling his eyes, because Chanyeol - despite his height and voice - can never be scary in Kyungsoo's eyes. Maybe a little crazy, but not scary.
"I DO NOT KNOW OF ANY KYUNGSOO!"
Kyungsoo lets out a huff of air. Not knowing what else to say, he tries, "Baekhyun sent me?"
It's quiet for a moment before the voice asks, this time softer, "How is Baekhyun?"
"He's okay, I guess," Kyungsoo says with a shrug. "I think he's looking for some person who rescued him from the sea."
"I see…"
"So can I stay the night? My clothes are about to disappear, and I need a place to crash. I've had a hectic day."
Kyungsoo waits for a reply. He notices someone coming out of the darkness, and he squints to see better. He has to rub his eyes to make sure it's not the light playing tricks on him. "Whoa," he breathes once he sees Chanyeol.
"You - You -"
Kyungsoo is so busy laughing at Chanyeol's beastly hair that he doesn't mind when he's kicked out of the castle and forced to find somewhere else to stay.
.
.
.
Kyungsoo stumbles into a small cottage, and for once is thankful of being a bit shorter than the rest of the members. He falls onto the floor, exhausted, and falls asleep without another word. When he wakes up, he finds fourteen eyes staring down at him.
He also finds a bump on his head from where they hit him with a shovel, knocking him out again.
.
.
.
Turns out that they knocked him out with a cursed shovel that, once hit with, you can only be woken up with true love's kiss.
Yeah, Kyunsoo doesn't know who makes up these rules, so don't ask.
Kyungsoo can hear them, though. His body is asleep, but his mind is still active. He's practically screaming at them furiously, because there is no way he'd let them kiss him awake!
"Let's call Prince Sehun! Maybe he'll know what to do!"
"Or maybe he's his true love!"
There's snickering, and Kyungsoo wants to scream.
He hears the galloping of a horse approaching and listens as Sehun comes close. "Yeah, I don't know him," is the first thing to drop from his lips.
"But I thought you were looking for your prince! He could be it!"
"No, my prince is in China right now. Immigration problems," Sehun says, almost bitter. "I already told you this, actually. Stop causing me troubles! I don't have time for this!" He's about to leave when the dwarves stop him.
"Well, at least help us get rid of him! We don't want to go to jail!"
"It's not my problem -"
"We knocked him out with your shovel!"
"I told you guys to get rid of that thing!" Sehun snaps. "But fine. I know some abandoned tower nearby where we can put him for now."
.
.
.
And now Kyungsoo is in a tower in the middle of nowhere. He just wants to wake up, make kimchi spaghetti, and watch TV while curled up under a blanket, but it seems like he's stuck in this aggravating realm.
Lucky for him, time still passes quickly here. Before he knows it, he hears a door creak open and footsteps approach.
He wishes he could see who it is, but no matter how hard he tries, he can't get his eyes open. He hears the quiet breaths though, and he thinks he recognizes them but he also doesn't want to get his hopes up because -
"Hyung, it's time to wake up," Jongin's very familiar voice whispers, his breath fanning against Kyungsoo's cheek. Even though Kyungsoo can't move, he can feel his body heat up and his heart clench in his chest.
It takes him a moment to register the lips on his, first soft and gentle. He can't move, although now he's unsure as to whether it's because of the curse or because it's Jongin kissing him.
When Kyungsoo feels a tongue, though, he immediately jolts awake.
.
.
.
Much to Kyungsoo's relief/disappointment, he wakes up in his own room, in his own bed, with Jongin's snoring as loud as ever. He glances over and unconsciously touches his lips. He shakes his head and laughs quietly. That was a really weird dream, he thinks to himself as he puts his slippers on and waddles into the kitchen.
(He fails to see the grin spreading across Jongin's lips.)
He's preparing breakfast when Junmyeon enters the kitchen, talking about a party he'd like to host one day. Kyungsoo's only half-paying attention, though. Baekhyun and Chanyeol enter later. Baekhyun is mourning over the loss of a majority of his closet that 'disappeared' after they moved in (Kyungsoo thinks Zitao took them, but doesn't say that), and Chanyeol's hair is crazier than usual ("WHY DIDN'T I BLOW DRY MY HAIR BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP?!" he mourns loudly as he stuffs bacon into his mouth). Sehun enters last, drowsy from sleep.
None of this really strikes Kyungsoo as odd, though, because his friends have always been far from normal.
And then Jongin enters the room, dodging the chaos in the room to bump shoulders with Kyungsoo, and whispers, "Morning, Sleeping Beauty."
Kyungsoo drops the frying pan because he realizes he can never escape this nightmare. (Nor does he really want to, he thinks as Jongin presses a kiss to Kyungsoo's forehead as they curl up on the couch together.)
