Yesterday, at the Rose Show ...

Yesterday my friend Sue and I went to a rose show on in town. The rose show was part of the events surrounding the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) Regional Convention being held in the city. Sue's mum does heritage roses so we were able to catch up with her while we were there.

(I'll admit up front that I have nothing more than a couple of carpet roses at my place, but that's all Gary's fault! He likes roses, but doesn't like the care and attention they need so, sadly, no roses have come to live at this house since we moved in.)

The show hall

The heritage roses display was interesting as it showed with real roses the crosses that were used to bring in various colours and shapes - like a living timeline. One basket display of the heritage roses had a note giving the names and dates of the roses which ranged from 1892 to 1930. (Dates are development, I assume, though I'm not sure what the rose-world term for that is.)

There were a quite a few displays and roses I liked, but I'm not a huge fan of pinks or reds in roses, nor of the attempts to include blue-ish colours.
