Off Goes the Cat-Aviary

Quite a few years ago, when Sam was a young cat, we bought an aviary to connect to the house with a tunnel so he could have some outside time but still be an inside cat. For various reasons things didn't end there and Sam is now an outside cat (inside when it suits him) and the aviary is nothing but an overgrown ornament in our back yard. Gary has had it listed on Trade Me (local online auction site) for ages and finally got sick of that so dropped it to a $1 starting price. Naturally this attracted a few bids so we know this time it's definitely going to a new home.

When we got it we discovered that we couldn't get it into the back yard as neither of the side gates were wide enough and there were trees and eaves in the way of just launching it over a fence. Instead we had to trundle it down the street and up the neighbours long drive and throw it over their fence. It was quite a drama.

A drama that was re-enacted in reverse today as the aviary left the back yard. Since it arrived Gary has rebuilt the entire back fence and he put in a section that could be opened in case of this very circumstance ...

The fence is opened

The aviary is manoeuvred into position

The aviary trundles down the neighbours' driveway

After the journey down the street the aviary arrives in the front yard

Bit sad to see it go, really.
