Yesterday, I was smart enough to take my crochet bag with me, as I left the house. After my MRI appointment, my family had plans of going grocery shopping. I decided that, while they picked out cucumbers, and other things needed, I would stay, in the parked car, and I would crochet.
And, that is exactly what I did.
True, it was hot as ALL hell...I was sweating up a storm. The sun was beating down on the car, and, even in the shade of a tree, it was still miserable. But, I worked on. I pulled out my Mystery Project, and I crocheted away. I looped yarn of one color on my cro-hook, then laced through it with the other color. I am happy to say that I got quite a bit of work done, while they were in the store. And, even though I am still in the beginning phase of this project, I can say that I have a very strong mental image of how it will look, when finished. I know I am totally going to love it.
And, now, it is time, for yet another hint. (Are you guys still guessing...yesterday, there were no guesses in my messages?)
Hint 6: This project has a specific theme.
Go on...guess away.
I have decided...
Those who come close to guessing this project will be getting the pattern, sent to them, via email. And, there is another prize, which will be awarded. For the individual who correctly guesses this project first (or comes closest to guessing), I will be awarding a virtual gift, which matches this project's them, to their journal.
Ok...enough of the Mystery Project. Moving on.
Yesterday, just as promised, I worked three squares...53, 56, and 59.
To start my rant on the three grannies, let us start by dissecting granny number 56.
First off, I will say this. This was my 4th attempt to work this HORRIBLE granny. With attempths 1 through 3, I always got confused while working rounds 2 and 3. (There was just something about them that, at the time, did not make sense.) Yesterday, I decided to give this square another shot. I had to work it, after all...eventually. Why not just take the bitch of a square down...be done with it. Just get it out of the friggin way!
You would think that, after the first 3 attempts, successfully working it on my 4th would give me some sense of satisfaction. Haha, granny...I showed you! You were a real pain in the ass...but, I FINALLY GOT MY WAY! I worked you into submission! But, no...
There should have been satisfaction, in taking down this granny. Instead, there was just confusion...A LOT of confusion.
First off, let us look at round 3.
Round three was confusing, and quite angering, for me. For round three, you basically make an octagon.
That's right...I said it. Octagon.
When I was trying to work a granny that was SUPPOSED to be an octagon, it just would not work for me. But here, in a granny that will wind up being a square, row three is a prefect octagon. It was easy to make... and, that pissed me off. Why couldn't my other octagon be easy? But, this octagon confused the HELL out of me. I mean, why is it there? When you are done with the complete 7 rounds, you don't even see that you woked the FRIGGIN octagon. I mean, what is the DAMNED point, in it?
And, the square just gets stranger, my friends.
Skip down to round 6. 2 dc in next st, skip next dc...
What the hell!!!
Why put 2 double crochets in one stitch, then skip the next? Why not just put one double crochet in every stitch? It made no friggin sense to me. None at all! It is like this square was just randomly designed, with no sense or reason...just so they could use it to get one step closer to the 99 point, that the book demanded.
To the designer of this square, a Mary Lamb Becker, I have this to say: "Where is the FRIGGIN logic, in this square?"
When finished with square 56, I should have been shouting: "YAY!" Instead, I was questioning: "WHY?" This square is like some 7 round yarn riddle, that, though worked, will never fully be solved.
Square 53 was a fun little square to work.
In the book, this square is done in blue. I worked mine, using my watermelon yarn...a hot pink square, that incorporates the beginning cluster, and cluster. I must say, I like the texture the clusters give this square. They make round two pop out...it is fun!
The last square I worked yesterday, square 59, was my favorite.
It has 6 rounds to it, and the stitch guide has 3 stitches: the treble, the beginning popcorn, and the popcorn.
I decided to work this square, using variegated yarn. I searched through my stash. Variegated yarn, in shades of pink...no. I have been "pinked" out, I think. Then, in the back of my stash, there was a yarn, I forgot I had. Variegated yarn with purple, yellow, blue, and green, in it. I love this yarn...it is so wild. I had a complete blast working squatre 59, with this yarn.
Check it out.

So, 37 squares down...I am almost done!
As for today...
I will go back to the pillow. I will finish up with my half double section (2 more hdc rows, at most), as well as work one row of broomstick lace. I will work on my Mystery Project. And, I will complete another 2 granny squares.
Well...
Time to go. I have a big day of yarn filled fun, ahead of me. Time to go get tangled up.
Happy crocheting!
