So...
Yesterday, I was working on my MYSTERY item, and I was thinking.
My original plan was as follows: The prime part of this piece was MY pattern. But, I was also going to, originally, use a few patterns found online, and in books, for the 'detailing'. (Much like the shawl. The shawl, itself, was my design. But, the pattern for the flowers was found online.) But, then I really started thinking on this.
If I am going to do this...If I am going to make a piece to show, in the Fair, then it needs to be ALL me. I NEED to come up with EVERYTHING, by myself. No using any type of pattern, found online, or in a book. I have to make the COMPLETE pattern for this piece. Otherwise, it is like cheating, isn't it? I mean, sure...I created the piece. But, it was someone else's vision.
So, yesterday, I decided to start tinkering around.
It is hard to write this, because I have to be vague with it, in fear of giving the MYSTERY item away. But, I will say this. I spent hours and hours yesterday, trying to come up with a pattern for a 'detail item' of this piece. Finally, after about 10 failed tries, I was successful. The piece came out.
With the shawl, all of you guys said the same thing. I was no longer just a crocheter. I was a designer. Yet, as the flowers were taken from a pattern that already existed, I felt that this was not the case.
Now, however...well, with this piece, I can happily say that I am a COMPLETE designer. This project will be ALL me. 100%.
I am so damned stoked!
God, part of me wants to spill the beans, right now, over this. I have NEVER been good at keeping suprises. There is something exciting about the revealing of surprises, isn't there? Plus, the fact that I am amazing myself, as I do this...well, I want to share it with you guys, so bad.
But no. I must be strong. I must keep it under wraps.
Here, however, is another hint.
Hint 5: One of the yarns being used is a real pain in the ass to work with. Either by color, or type of fiber...I am HATING working with it.
Ok...
Yesterday, I took a break from the grannies. While it may, in fact, be 'hip to be square', occasionally, a break is needed. Well, that, along with the fact that I was little Mr. Pattern Maker.
I did, however, work on the pillow. Only one or two more rows, need to be worked, in half double. Then, it is back to the dreaded broomstick lace. (I think that, by the time I am done with this pillow, I will never want to see the broomstick lace, again.)
As for today...
I have an MRI appointment, to go to, shortly. I am PRAYING that they do not need to STUFF me all the way in that damned machine. I am not comfortable, in any way, being COMPLETELY confined. (Please...oh please...leave my head out, at least.,) Since the MRI is only of my foot, I am optimistic that I will not be put all the way in.
When I get home, I will start crocheting.
Just as I took a break from the squares, yesterday, I have decided to take a break from the pillow, today. Today, I am hoping to FORGET the term 'broomstick lace.' I need a broomstick break.
So, what will I do?
Glad you asked!
I will be working not one, not two...but three grannies. I am very anxious to have all my 50 grannies done, so I can start arranging them, and making my afghan. I can hardly wait!
Then, I will work a little bit on my Mystery item. I will attempt to make a pattern for another detail piece.
Well, I am off. My appointment is almost upon me, and I am still in my PJ's. Time to get dressed, grab some cereal, pop a XANAX, and pray to God they don't put me all the way in the DAMNED machine.
Happy crocheting, all!
