Going Home...THANK GOD!

Aug 01, 2010 10:25

As I write this, I am 'enjoying'  a McDonald's breakfast, that took me (no lie) 30 minutes of waiting in line, to get. I swear to God, McDonald's is like friggin Disneyland, today. But, oh well...
Today is my last day in Paso Robles. And, all I can say on this is: THANK GOD!
Last night, while driving to my 'friend's' house, I found out that he's not really a friend, at all.
"You have to use your wheelchair, when we get there," I was told. "They all say that you are too noisy, using your walker. They complain that you wake them up, EVERY night."
Talk about wanting to cry. Talk about feeling as though you are complete SHIT! I felt small...and I hated it. Yeah, my walker makes a scraping noise, on the floor. But, can I help that? Jesus...what a way to help somebody, going through recovery.
Needless to say, I no longer feel comfortable in this PERSON'S home. And, if I ever come to Paso Robles again, I will be staying in a hotel.
There now...I just had to get that off my chest.
Yesterday, I worked one granny square, just as I said I would. I wanted to do my square in the burgandy, and orange. But, the burgandy was acrylic (which is great), and the orange was wool. Being new to yarn, I am not sure these would work well together. Better not risk it. Plus, the orange wool, as you may recall, is being saved. I am going to use it in the loom knitting section of The Yarn Project. So, the orange yarn was taken out of the game, and the burgandy was all that could play.
The square I chose to work was square 21. In the stitch guide, four stitches are found:  Treble, Double Treble, Beginning Popcorn,  and Popcorn. The sample square, seen in the book is done in three colors. Rose, Blue, and, you guessed it...Ecru! (It is like the people at Leisure Arts are convinced that it is NOT a granny square, unless ECRU is thrown, somewhere, in the mix. Let the FRIGGIN color go...it doesn't HAVE to be used in EVERY square! Stop trying to build yourself an ecrUTOPIA!)
There are 7 rounds in this square. SEVEN ROUNDS THAT SEEM TO GO ON FOREVER!!!
I started this square at 10:45, yesterday morning. I was in the back of the store (notice how I didn't say "my friend's"store.) I managed to finish at 1:15. Yes there were a few interruptions. But, all in all...it was just an everlasting bitch-of-a-square to work. (For the first time, I started to get impatient. I just wanted the friggin square to be done! I could not wait to put yarn down, for the day!) I wanted to just rush through it. But, I knew I couldn't do that. If I rushed, I may have messed up. And, as I have said before, I will not half-ass anything. So, I sat there, for what seemed like an eternity, working with burgandy yarn. (I am now SO bored with that friggin burgandy yarn. Time to put it away, and keep it out of sight for a while.)
At 1:15, all my labor paid off. Using a tapestry needle, I sewed the loose ends of yarn, into the square. Then, I held it up. What was in front of me was beautiful. Looking at this square, I honestly felt as though I had outdone myself. True, it wasn't that hard a square. I thought it would be...but, it was just time consuming...not difficult. But, it looks SO elegant. Even the employees at the store (which is a NAPA Auto Parts), were telling me how cool looking this square was. This square moved right on up to #1 of my favorite square. (Sorry, star-granny...your 15 minutes is now up. Step aside, and let this new granny take the throne.)

After finishinhg this square (and patting myself on the back for a job, well done,) I was off to the Fair. While there, I went into a building, where all the quilts, and afghans are. I was looking at a Christmas afghan (white gannies, with poinsettias in in the center of each), when one of the building volunteers approached me.
"Are you going to enter something, next year?"
If you will remember, my first day at the Fair, I went into this building, and sat down, to work on the shawl, I was making for my mother. This lady had been present that day...had seen me, crocheting away. Yesterday, she told me she thought the shawl was beautiful. I told her that, no, I would not be entering anything next year...that I am just starting out.
"I will not settle for no!" She said. "You simply MUST enter something."
And, another ego-boost. I am still so new to crocheting. To think that I am getting compliments this HUGE, completely amazes me. I feel as though I have found my niche.
As for Fair food...
I wish I could say I got the apple dumpling. But, no. I was close...but the Bucket-O-Fries called to me, a little bit louder. And, they were amazing. Fresh potatoes, and just LOADED with garlic.
OH MY GOD!
So, as for today...
Well...
I am going to attempt to do two squares. The colors of yarn I have with me today: purple, and pink.
I am going to, at first, try to crochet at the store. However, I am not sure I will comfortable there. Last night is still so fresh in my mind. So, if that doesn't work...well, I pack my yarn up, and head off to Starbucks. A little C&C (that would be Crocheting & Coffee) sounds as though it could be good.
Well, I am off...
And, God...I cannot wait to be HOME!
Happy crocheting!
