xray_spex and I started catching up on True Blood, the HBO show. Its pretty damned weird, but also fairly well written. It occured to me that if there were a movie where an FBI agent, an NSA agent, and a CIA agent (played by Rutger Hauer, Michael Ironside, and Powers Booth) fought a band of ninjas (led by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa with Bolo Yeung as his muscle), the awesomeness quotient of the planet earth would come unhinged and the universe would implode. Sideways.

And yet I did not post about it properly, and am now forced to squeeze them all into friday.

Penelope, a contemporary fairy tale with a pig nosed girl played by Christina Ricci.

There isn't much specific I can say... Everyone in the cast (James McAvoy,Catherine O'Hara,Reese Witherspoon,Richard E. Grant) is as great as you expect them to be.  Great overall script. Great overall direction.

Fantastic.  That is all.

Despite having my Mom in residence this weekend*, we were more than usually pinned down**... so we attempted to watch a few movies.

We rent a lot of movies.
I check new releases every week or so and grab everything I recognize that is new.

There is a problem with that logic, in that some movies do not stick in my memory.  Some stick for no good reason.

As such I grab probably 80% of all action and adventure movies.  Only about 65% of which are things I want to watch (while I have ( Read more... )

I wasn't expecting much from "No Reservations," but it failed to deliver even to that.

Not a romantic comedy, as it was billed in the ads we saw for it a year ago, more of a romantic drama, with reasonable romance for a non-romantic drama, and less drama than walking around your back yard for 90 minutes.
