The Girl That Sat Down Beside Me
I was sitting all alone with my thoughts,
Waiting for my train.
A girl sat down beside me,
And with her came the rain.
I gave her my umbrella,
To keep her warm and dry.
Her last train had been cancelled,
It showed in her eyes.
I asked her what had happened,
And so she told me true,
The train that had been cancelled,
Was as important as any two.
The most important of her lifetime,
And yet it still was gone,
Stopped by bad weather,
Never to go on.
I gave her my umbrella,
And told her that she,
Could have anything she wanted,
She just had to ask me.
I offered her a seat,
Upon the train with me,
And I was completely baffled,
When she said she'd wait and see.
She'd wait awhile for that other train,
The one that will not arrive,
This beautiful girl cannot see,
That she is being deprived.
Deprived of the chance,
To make another connection,
To find the chance to be happy,
Another train, other affections.
Still holding my umbrella,
She began to walk away.
When I called out to her,
She looked like she might stay.
But she kept walking on,
Looking for her train,
While I am still here,
Sitting in the rain.
